Design and implementation of an information retrieval system by Dale L Brooks( Archival Material )
1 edition published in 1992 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
"The availability of high capacity disk drives and optical disks allows users to store enormous amounts of textual information on line. Information retrieval systems provide users with a way to manage and retrieve this information quickly and efficiently. This project explores various text retrieval methods and techniques. It also presents the design and implementation of a complete Information Retrieval System that can be used in the NCC Library to store and retrieve documents. The design includes the use of B-tree access methods, Query Processing, File Compression Techniques, and Interface design strategies. The IBASE (information database) program developed in this project includes the following features: document insertion, document removal, and database reorganization. Advanced features include boolean queries, document browsing, and a graphical user interface. The project design also includes support for future enhancements, such as concurrency, parallel processing and additional guidelines for improvements in search performance."--Author's abstract
