States versus markets : the emergence of a global economy by Herman M Schwartz( Book )
27 editions published between 2000 and 2010 in English and Undetermined and held by 637 libraries worldwide
"Drawing on a broad-ranging reassessment of the historical and spatial evolution of the world economy, Herman Schwartz shows how the twenty-first-century world has come to resemble the late nineteenth century, in which markets typically overwhelmed state policies, more than the mid-twentieth century, in which states were often able to control or contain markets. In so doing he shows that globalization is a much longer-term and more multi-faceted phenomenon than its current protagonists generally argue and provides a particularly clear account of the complex interdependence of modern states and modern markets." "The new edition provides full coverage of the financial crisis of the emerging markets of the 1990s and their - and others' - respective prospects into the twenty-first century."--Jacket

States versus markets : history, geography, and the development of the international political economy by Herman M Schwartz( Book )
4 editions published in 1994 in English and Undetermined and held by 389 libraries worldwide
"States versus Markets focuses on the struggles of states as they deal with changing world markets and try to influence the international political economy in ways that serve their own interests. Professor Schwartz argues that the stability and successful state intervention in markets that characterized the post-World War II period were not normal, but were in fact a dramatic departure from the typical processes of the global economy. He points out that the current global economy increasingly resembles that of the nineteenth century, when market pressures tended to overwhelm state policies."--Jacket
The politics of housing booms and busts by H Schwartz( Book )

Exploring the global financial crisis ( Book )
10 editions published between 2012 and 2013 in English and held by 179 libraries worldwide
Have the financial crisis of 2008 and the subsequent recession rearranged the basic structures of the global economy? To answer that fundamental question, the authors of Exploring the Global Financial Crisis tackle a number of related questions: What has happened, for example, to global flows of people, goods, and capital? Will the euro and the dollar persist as global currencies? Can governments that bailed out failing banks by vastly expanding public debt manage to regain solvency, and at what political cost? Ranging across regions, and from the factors that gave birth to the crisis to current politico-economic rivalries, the authors present both mainstream and critical views on the central issues involved. -- Publisher description

1 edition published in 1986 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
The studies show our model of dominion politics does explain political struggles in these cases. Case studies of the US (1789-1860) and South Korea (1945-1986), which respectively are examples of movement from dominion to core, and from integrated periphery to dominion, demonstrate the plausibility and utility of disaggregation, as well as the applicability of the model to other historical periods. The conclusions show that dependency typically generates struggles among foreign, domestically controlled but exporting, and domestically owned and marketing capitals, while development emerges from struggles among capitalists and workers
