Your private sky : R. Buckminster Fuller, the art of design science by R. Buckminster Fuller( Book )
3 editions published in 1999 in English and German and held by 663 libraries worldwide
"As an engineer, a poet; as a designer, a philosopher; as a researcher, an artist - R. Buckminster Fuller established new standards. Convinced that specialists usually create more problems than they solve, he developed his concepts for a vision of the whole. In addition, in his unique way Fuller inter-linked the fields of architecture, geometry, engineering, natural science and anthropology. This book provides a highly multi-faceted insight into Fuller's world, also showing many of its up-to-now unknown sides."--Jacket

Nature design : from inspiration to innovation by Angeli Sachs( Book )
15 editions published in 2007 in English and German and held by 247 libraries worldwide
"Nature has been a source of inspiration in the design of the human environment, and its influence on contemporary design is more than evident. The "model of nature," with its forms, structures, and organizing principles, does not only inspire the widest range of concept and design processes, but also can be expressed in a broad spectrum of forms and functions. Nature Design addresses this phenomenon from the eighteenth century until today, and presents an international selection of objects and projects from the fields of design, architecture, landscape architecture, art, photography, and scientific research that do not simply depict or imitate nature, but use it as a starting point and reservoir of inspiration for eclectic and innovative responses to the relationship between man and his environment."--Jacket

8 editions published in 2000 in English and Multiple languages and held by 136 libraries worldwide
"Bruno Munari (1907-98) was an impassioned collector of the visible, of differences in appearances. With single-minded purpose, he explored the relationship between simple objects and our sensual transformation of them. Born in Milan, Munari was a prominent figure in Italy and Europe for decades as an artist, graphic designer, author of children's books, and publicist. Children were his mentors; he was fascinated with the forces that enable us to transform the natural impulses of the child into effective design. This comprehensive presentation of Bruno Munari's oeuvre will delight art directors, graphic artists, product designers, architects, and all lovers of playful design."--Jacket

12 editions published between 2005 and 2007 in 3 languages and held by 117 libraries worldwide
"As a catering concept the takeaway is based on speed, order and efficiency. Now a widespread form of eating with a constantly expanding culinary range - a far remove from its earlier hamburger-dominated definition - the takeaway also makes considerable demands on the equipment designed for its consumption." "The publication "Take away" documents a century of design-related developments associated with eating on the move. Some 200 illustrations provide access to an apparently familiar yet often overlooked design world, full of aesthetic appeal, technological secrets and situational charm." ""Take away" is a book about design, but one which views the appreciation of aesthetic properties in the context of their historical, economic, technological, sociocultural and ecological backgrounds. The thematic focus on eating on the move puts design issues just where they belong: at the heart of our day-to-day existence."--BOOK JACKET

Every thing design : [the collections of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich] by Museum für Gestaltung Zürich( Book )
8 editions published in 2009 in English and German and held by 115 libraries worldwide
A collectors piece full of collectors pieces: 800 pages of design classics in an unusual book-object. How is a design object perceived? How does this perception change over time? Why would a museum include it in a collection, and how is its significance and value established? The descriptive phrase value change is used to indicate, over the decades, recurring hallmarks of quality and alterations in the reception of everyday and artistic design culture. Seven hundred objectsprints, handcrafted items, posters, designsselected from the collection of the Museum für Gestaltung inZurich (founded in 1875), are organized according to various criteria and commented upon here. This results in surprising associations which reexamine the issues of trends, design, production, and reception. As a book, Every Thing Design itself is an extraordinarily unusual object created by Dutch designer Irma Boom, one of the most innovative book designers in the world

High-rise : idea and reality ( Book )
3 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 102 libraries worldwide
About half of the high-rises around the world were built in the past ten years. This construction boom has turned the high-rise into a formative element of the most important sphere of collective life today: the city. Its symbolic power, however, often seems to be larger than life, for even in the twenty-first century, the high-rise is still the embodiment of the city as such, while in the eyes of others, it is leveled against the city. This publication shows contemporary buildings and projects in their cultural and urban-planning contexts, which, depending on whether they are in Europe or Asia, for instance, can be very different. The book also inquires into the lives of individuals within the larger framework, taking a look at everyday life in the high-rise and the towering buildings as part of everyday experience. Artistic works expand the architectural horizon and question the aesthetic and ethical claims that are linked to these kinds of outstanding structures
