He gets his friends Mat the Rat and Sam the Lion to help try to catch it in his hat - but in the process Mit and Mat both fall into the water. Sam rescues them with a net and at the same time hauls in the fish. But the fish is unhappy out of water so Mit throws him back into the ocean

Mit the Chimp and Nan the Parrot meet in the same tree, see the flower, and discover the hat. They do not know that it belongs to the sleeping Ann. When the giraffe wakes up she is startled to see the parrot in her hat. Ann finally gets her hat back and all the animals nap under the tree

Ann the Giraffe, alone in a boat, is sad without her friend, Mat the Rat. She has no idea that he is hiding underwater in his fine new diving suit. When Ann lowers a fishing net into the water, Mat puts an octopus in it to tease her. Ann sadly throws the octopus back into the water. When she lowers the net again, Mat climbs into it, but though Ann pulls and pulls, he is too heavy for her. Ed the Dog and Mit the Chimp come running to help, and when the net is finally hauled out Ann is delighted to see Mat again

Ann the Giraffe, Sis the Snake, Mit the Chimp, Sam the Lion, and Mat the Rat go for a boat ride together. After a while, each animal begins to lose interest in the ride and finds a better place to sit than in the boat. Only the furious Ann is left on the river. Finally, a lemonade-sipping alligator appears and makes the giraffe happy by inviting her to join him in the water
