Military officer Willie Williams, born September 27, 1955, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the U.S. Marine Corps in May of 1974. Williams graduated with his M.A. degree in business administration from National University in 1992. He also received his M.A. degree in strategic resources management from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1994. Williams’ military education included graduating from the Armed Forces Staff College and the Amphibious Warfare School. Williams was appointed as commander of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit from 1994 to 1996. Williams also served as the assistant deputy commandant of Installations and Logistics at the Marine Corps headquarters. In 2011, Williams became the first African American to be appointed as the director of the U.S. Marine Corps staff, as Lieutenant General. Williams’ military honors include the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Department of Defense Service Badge. Williams received Honorary Doctorates from Stillman College and Albany State University
