Automated Configuration Problem Solving by Charles J Petrie( file )
9 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 42 libraries worldwide
Annotation. Automated Configuration has long been the subject of intensive research, especially in Artificial Intelligence. It is a pervasive problem to be solved, and it is a good test of various knowledge representation and reasoning techniques. The problem shows up in applications such as various electrical circuit design, utility computing and even concurrent engineering. Automated Configuration Problem Solving defines the ubiquitous problem, illustrates the various solution techniques, and includes a survey using these techniques from the mid-70's until the mid-90's. During this time, various general approaches were developed, and then become more specialized. This book covers the development of the general problem solving techniques for automated configuration, which are based on both published academic work and patents
Web Service Composition by Charles J Petrie( file )
5 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 36 libraries worldwide
This book carefully defines the technologies involved in web service composition and provides a formal basis for all of the composition approaches and shows the trade-offs among them. By considering web services as a deep formal topic, some surprising results emerge, such as the possibility of eliminating workflows. It examines the immense potential of web services composition for revolutionizing business IT as evidenced by the marketing of Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs). The author begins with informal considerations and builds to the formalisms slowly, with easily-understood motivating examples. Chapters examine the importance of semantics for web services and ways to apply semantic technologies. Topics included range from model checking and Golog to WSDL and AI planning. This book is based upon lectures given to economics students and is suitable for business technologist with some computer science background. The reader can delve as deeply into the technologies as desired
Semantic Web Services Challenge : results from the first year by Ramesh Jain( Book )

Develops a common understanding of the various technologies intended to facilitate the automation of mediation, choreography and discovery for Web Services using semantic annotations. This book is designed for a professional audience composed of practitioners and researchers in industry
New algorithms for dependency-directed backtracking by Charles J Petrie( Archival Material )
3 editions published in 1986 in English and held by 5 libraries worldwide
Abstract: "The problem of providing dependency-directed backtracking in a Doyle-style Truth Maintenance System (TMS) is solved with three algorithms. The first modifies Doyle's basic algorithm by eliminating the necessity for conditional proof justifications. Unlike other attempts to do so, this method maintains the capability of the TMS to provide complete explanations from justifications. The second algorithm, which eliminates the generation of a maximal assumption set, provides a novel description of backtracking as a simple search. Finally, an extension of this algorithm allows contradiction resolution to be extended as an inference technique for expert systems

Artificial intelligence research at MCC : a 1988 snapshot by Charles J Petrie( Book )
1 edition published in 1988 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
Abstract: "MCC is a research consortium currently organized into four major funding programs. Less than one third of one of these programs is specifically devoted to AI research, yet it is of fundamental importance to both the Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Software Technology (ST) Programs, and pervades the Advanced Computer Architecture (ACA) Program. We give a brief survey of AI work in the CAD, ST, and ACA Programs. This paper focuses on the Expert System Technology (EST) Project within the ACA AI Lab."
