Hoffman discusses the history and layout of the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he was head of the Department of Architecture and director of the Cranbrook Architecture Office. He presents a number of studio projects done at Cranbrook where there is an emphasis on art and craft details in materials, fabrication, construction, and installation. Projects include: a trellis bridge; a "story hut" made of cedar poles and cedar shakes; a community mailbox enclosure; a guard booth at the new entrance to Cranbrook and an entrance sign; light fixtures; a cast bronze wall; and an entry gate to the elementary school.
