The act of killing by Joshua Oppenheimer( visu )
1 edition published in 2014 in Indonesian and held by 763 libraries worldwide
In this chilling and inventive documentary, executive produced by Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man) and Errol Morris (The Fog of War), the unrepentant former members of Indonesian death squads are challenged to re-enact some of their many murders in the style of the American movies they love. In the 1960s Anwar Congo was a leader in Indonesia's pro-regime paramilitary group, Pancasila Youth who, along with his band of dedicated followers, was amongst those who participated in the murder and torture more than a million alleged Communists, ethnic Chinese and intellectuals. Proud of their deeds, which have still gone unpunished, Anwar and his pals are lauded as national heroes, and are delighted when the filmmakers ask them to re-enact these murders for their documentary - in any genre they desire. Initially Anwar and his friends enthusiastically take up the challenge using hired actors, making elaborate sets and costumes, but eventually as the movie violence is played out and reconstructed, Anwar's conscience begins to stir and feelings of remorse surface. Diva : defiance and passion in early Italian cinema by Angela Dalle Vacche( Book )
1 edition published in 2008 in English and held by 259 libraries worldwide
"Animated by a luminous goddess at its center, the diva film provided a forum for denouncing social evils and exploring new models of behavior among the sexes ... Dalle Vacche offers the first authoritative study of this important film genre of the cinema that preceded the First World War ... Contrasting the Italian diva with the Hollywood vamp Theda Bara and the famous Danish star Asta Nielsen, Dalle Vacche shows how the diva oscillates between articulating Henri Bergson's vibrant life-force and representing the suffering figure of the Catholic mater dolorosa."--Cover

But then she had another disturbing slumber, a nightmare where her deceased ex-husband predicts that she will die at age 48. After a foreboding doctor's visit, and with her 49th birthday mere months away, she starts to wonder about the explanatory power of dreams and their impact on her own mortality. In Edge of Dreaming, Amy looks for answers everywhere, from leading biologists Weissmann of and neuroscientists to the more spiritual solutions of a shaman. Waste food ( visu )
6 editions published between 2006 and 2007 in English and held by 119 libraries worldwide
Man is the only creature that produces landfills. Natural resources are being depleted on a rapid scale while production and consumption are rising in nations like China and India. Waste production worldwide is enormous and if we do not do anything, we will soon have turned our entire planet into one big messy landfill. But there is hope. "Cradle to cradle" manufacturing and building is a revolutionary concept advocated by German chemist Michael Braungart and the American designer-architect William McDonough. This theory argues that manufacturers' products, when discarded, should either be completely recyclable in the Technosphere or become biodegradable food for the Biosphere. While fundamentally changing the way we produce and build, these ideas are increasingly being embraced by major corporations and governments worldwide
