Where the outback drovers ride : stories, poems and yarns from the bush by Bruce Simpson( 图书 )
6 editions published between 2005 and 2006 in 英语 and held by 93 libraries worldwide
In the first half of the 20th century, packhorse drovers - following in the footsteps of the early overlanders - took on the challenge of moving enormous numbers of cattle many thousands of kilometres across the country. They overcame extraordinary natural hazards and the tyranny of distance that stood between the far-flung stations and the markets. This evocative collection of outback folklore, poetry and true accounts paints a colourful picture of a variety of characters who thrived in an environment where guts and self-reliance were essential for survival. Bruce Simpson was an outback drover up until the 1960s and is one of a few bushmen with the eloquence to relate his personal experiences in literary form. "Where The Outback Drovers Ride" brings together two of his most popular works, "Packhorse Drover" and "Hell, Highwater & Hard Cases"
Where the dead men lie : tales of graves, pioneers and old bush pubs by Bruce Simpson( 图书 )
2 editions published between 2003 and 2008 in 英语 and held by 84 libraries worldwide
"The stories behind the tragic and often untimely deaths of our early pioneers in the bush. Bruce Simpson and photographer Ian Tinney travelled along the old Cobb & Co coach roads and stock routes to the final resting places of some of our earliest settlers. As well as documenting these sites for posterity they visited some of the legendary drinking places, many in ruins, of characters such as bushmen and bushrangers."--Provided by publisher.

Chilla's apprentice by Bruce Simpson( 图书 )
3 editions published between 2001 and 2002 in 英语 and held by 47 libraries worldwide
Chilla's apprentice is a collection of tales about Australia during the Great Depression astutely written by retired drover Bruce Simpson and narrated by Don Barker. Many diggers returned from the battlefields of World War I to be faced, a decade later, by one of the toughest periods of Australian rural history where swagmen, drovers, saddlers and all country folk strugglled to sruvive. From hardship rose humour and heroism and a strength of spirit which typified the rural communities and individuals at the time. Chilla O'Rourke is a gun horse breaker, drover, shearer, fighter and improviser, and through his clear eyes we come to know and appreciate the tales and hard lives of bush battlers. Told with humour and sensitivity, Chilla's roguish scams are endearing as he bravely faces the Great Depression with a resourcefulness so typical of this never-say-die character.
