Pareto, economics and society : the mechanical analogy by Michael McLure( Book )
15 editions published between 2001 and 2014 in English and held by 175 libraries worldwide
"A central theme of this book is the overarching role of the 'mechanical analogy' in all of Pareto's work. Important aspects and implications of Pareto's work considered by the author include: relations between pure economic theory and general sociology; the problem of collective economic welfare; the juxtaposition of Pareto's political sociology to Buchanan's public choice/constitutional economics; pareto and methodology; and implications for public policy and government." "Emerging from this investigation is a new, multidisciplinary research framework for economists, sociologists and political scientists, and a 'Paretian' framework for the study of government and public policy."--Jacket
The Paretian school and Italian fiscal sociology by Michael McLure( Book )
9 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 118 libraries worldwide
In the English-speaking world, academic interest was either in Pareto the economist, when economists considered issues such as welfare theory, ordinal utility, demand theory or the economics of choice, or Pareto the sociologist, when sociologists and political scientists considered issues such as the theory of action and elite theory. A Pareto vogue emerged in both these discipline areas. In Italy, however, the character of the Paretian episode was quite different: Pareto's influence was much more immediate, more extensive and more enduring, with many Italian economists investigating the relationship between economics and sociology based on Pareto's contributions. This book is important for revealing this unique intellectual legacy to English-speaking scholars for the first time and, in the process, making the case for referring to the 'Paretian school' in Italy. Perhaps the most distinctly Paretian contributions of this school are in the area of fiscal thought. As a consequence, considerable attention is given in this study to the Paretian attempts to develop a 'sociology public finance' or, more simply, 'fiscal sociology'

Manual of political economy : a variorum translation and critical edition by Vilfredo Pareto( Book )
3 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in English and held by 13 libraries worldwide
Vilfredo Pareto's Manual of Political Economy is a 'classic' study in the history of economic thought for many reasons, the most noteworthy of which include the setting of general equilibrium economics within a choice theoretic framework based on the opposition between tastes and obstacles; the definitive formulation of economic efficiency, including the surplus approach to collective welfare; the technically flawed but nonetheless insightful treatment of path dependence in consumertheory; and the introduction of non-competitive market analysis to the general equilibrium economics. In so doing

Unmet student demand for tertiary education by Margaret Giles( Book )
3 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
"This report investigates factors that influence the decision-making process of applicants and the outcomes of post-school applications using the 2001 Survey of Education, Training and Information Technology. It finds that inability to obtain any place at a university or vocational education and training institute in 2001 was very low, but considerably higher in terms of getting a place in a preferred course at a preferred institution. The report adds to the understanding of what is known about the prevalence and causes of unmet student demand for tertiary education, a sensitive issue which is often not well understood."
