Der Roman ist fesselnd und lebendig geschrieben. Detailreich und genau, fast naturwissenschaftlich, beschreibt Jules Verne die fantastischen Phänomene der unterirdischen Welt und macht sie so für die Leser/innen plastisch. Für die jüngeren unter ihnen mögen diese den Handlungsstrang unterbrechenden Beschreibungen ein wenig Geduld erfordern.
