Neglected diseases : a human rights analysis by Paul Hunt( Book )
16 editions published in 2007 in English and Undetermined and held by 155 libraries worldwide
Neglected diseases are both a cause and consequence of human rights violations. The failure to respect certain human rights, such as the rights to water, adequate housing, education and participation, increases the vulnerability of individuals and communities to neglected diseases. People afflicted by neglected diseases are vulnerable to violations of their human rights, including the rights to health, life, non-discrimination, privacy, work, education, and to enjoy the benefits of scientific progress. These human rights causes and consequences of neglected diseases have important implications for the global fight against neglected diseases. This report aims to introduce and explore some of the connections between neglected diseases and human rights. Having established the linkages, the next challenge will be for all parties collaboratively to identify the practical implications of applying human rights to the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, programs and projects for neglected diseases.--Publisher's description

Maternal mortality, human rights and accountability by Paul Hunt( Book )
9 editions published between 2013 and 2015 in English and held by 69 libraries worldwide
The scale of maternal mortality and morbidity today is staggering. This book focuses on a vital part of a human rights response to maternal mortality, viz. accountability. Accountability encompasses monitoring, review and redress at the local, national and international levels. The book's context includes the UN Human Rights Council maternal mortality and morbidity resolutions, as well as Millennium Development Goal 5. It comes out of a roundtable conference held in Geneva during 2010 that examined maternal mortality, human rights and accountability and provided a forum where maternal healt

Health promotion interventions to promote healthy eating in the general population - a review by Liane Roe( Book )
1 edition published in 1997 in English and held by 20 libraries worldwide
This report reviews the effectiveness of interventions to promote healthy eating, where healthy eating was defined as a diet reduced in fat and increased in starchy foods, fruits and vegetables. The scope of the review was limited to healthy eating interventions among groups of adults, adolescents, or school-aged children, where the populations were not selected for being at raised risk of disease. In most settings, only controlled experimental and quasi-experimental studies were included. In the settings of supermarkets and catering outlets, uncontrolled studies which had an outcome measure of food purchases were also included. We reviewed a total of 76 healthy eating interventions which were evaluated from 1985 to 1996. <Author p. 1>

Developing a Core Competency Model for Information Systems Management Officers in the United States Army by Paul Hunt( Book )
3 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
As DoD and the Army move into the 21st Century, the technologies that abound are increasing not only volume but also in complexity. In order to manage and leverage these technologies, a clear vision needs to be articulated starting at the very top of DoD. With this vision, it will then become the responsibility of the Army's System Automation Officers (FA 53) to implement that vision. The challenge then becomes, what exactly are the core competencies, or more plainly put, what knowledge, skills and attributes must these officers possess, in order to be successful in carrying out the Army's overarching plans. Once these competencies are identified, how do we ensure our officers' success by training them in these competencies in Army and civilian institutions? This thesis examines these questions and, through use of core competency modeling (specifically, the Customized Generic Model Method), will identify the core competencies of a systems automation officer and explore avenues to improve the efficiency of the FA 53 education
Electrical conductivity mechanism and textures of mineralized sericite schist from the Gold Lake area of the Yellowknife mining district, Northwest Territories by S Connell-Madore( Book )
2 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
The purpose of this paper is to document results of the determination of electrical resistivity characteristics of schist samples from the Gold Lake area of the Yellowknife mining district, Northwest Territories, for use in interpreting ground electromagnetic surveys that have been conducted in that region. Results are presented from investigations of electrical conductivity mechanisms determined for five sub-samples taken from two mineralized schist samples selected to characterize the resistivity of the alteration zone and to determine the effect of cross-cutting veins & of fine-grained sulphide minerals oriented parallel to foliation. Resistivity-related factors examined in the study include sulphide grain connectivity, the insulating quality of quartz & calcite grain layers, and pore-fluid connectivity
Electrical conductivity mechanism of graphitic shale from the Astarte River formation, Piling Group, Baffin Island, Nunavut by S Connell-Madore( Book )
2 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
Electrical resistivity measurements previously made on graphitic shale samples from the Astarte River Formation on Baffin Island indicate that they display weak to strong anisotropic characteristics, with low and high resistivities in the directions parallel & perpendicular to foliation respectively. The purpose of the study described in this paper is to determine the electrical conductivity mechanisms that resulted in those characteristics. Study methods included electrical resistivity and porosity measurements, graphite thin-section analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. Resistivity-related factors examined in the study include pore-fluid connectivity, the presence of graphite, and the insulating quality of quartz grain layers
