Seim presents them with the work of individual modern artists and asks questions such as: Is this art? What was the artist trying to convey? These are discussed and debated in groups and then articulated to the class as a whole. A group landscape is also created. Episode B steps inside Carole DuBuse's classroom of 9th to 12th graders from a blue-collar neighborhood in Omaha, Nebraska, many of whom are "at-risk", as they have a multicultural lesson in art by studying masks. They make masks, study masks as art and as cultural artifacts and analyze what lies behind each work.
