Functional training focuses on unique fundamentals which may be transferable to other skills. Functional training facilitates flexibility and the ability to make multiple and appropriate adjustments in various tasks. It also integrates mobility, strength, endurance, cardio, speed and agility as it incorporates natural neural training principles achieving better results
Christy a closer walk ; Judgement day ( visu )
1 edition published in 1996 in English and held by 10 libraries worldwide
A closer walk : Christy counsels David when he questions his life's purpose as a preacher. Judgement day: Christy clashes with mission founder Dr. Ferrand over the donations she solicited from her home church, the largest of which injures Miss Alice
Balance/stability ( visu )
1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 8 libraries worldwide
This series presents information for functional analysis, injury prevention, physical rehabilitation, training and conditioning, and performance enhancement. In this episode, balance and stability is discussed. Traditionally balance and stability has meant stillness of the body on an unstable surface. While this is true for some scenarios, it is only a small aspect of the comprehensive functional balance that is needed for efficiency, effectiveness and safety in both daily activity and competitive performance. Focusing on the "zones of transformation" results in more effective rehabilitative therapy regarding balance and stability
A warrior's heart by Daniel Monzón( visu )
1 edition published in 2011 in English and held by 7 libraries worldwide
In shock and denial over his marine father's death in combat, high school lacrosse star Conor Sullivan starts acting out in self destructive ways until he's kicked off the team and sent to a wilderness lacrosse camp run by his dad's combat buddy. Strengthened by the support and understanding of his newfound love, and through a deep understanding of the game and its Native American roots, he opens his eyes to the true meaning of sportsmanship, love, and life
Christy ( visu )
2 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 7 libraries worldwide
Two episodes from Season 2 of the TV series. To have & to hold, episode 3 and A man's reach, episode 5
Motivation/empowerment ( visu )
1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 7 libraries worldwide
The Fast Function series presents information for functional analysis, injury prevention, physical rehabilitation, training and conditioning, and performance enhancement. This episode reveals the power of encouragement and the strategies and techniques necessary to harness motivation and empowerment from which patients/clients and professionals can together be positively affected
Strength/power ( visu )
1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 6 libraries worldwide
This series presents information for functional analysis, injury prevention, physical rehabilitation, training and conditioning, and performance enhancement. In this episode, strength and power is discussed. Traditionally, people focus on muscle training to increase strength. This program focuses instead on power training which will naturally enhance strength while also integrating mobility, endurance, cardio, speed and agility using the "zones of transformation."
Speed/Reaction by Gary Gray( visu )
1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 6 libraries worldwide
In this issue of Fast Function, Gary, Dave and Bob give an in-depth explanation the essential elements of Speed and Reaction in all rehabilitation, training, and conditioning programs. These elements must be tailored to specific tasks: both optimal speed and reaction may be either slow or fast depending on the relative needs for power and precision. Time and timing is important. Traditional training programs tend to be biased toward maximized speed and reaction in dominant planes of motion, using primary muscle groups often in non-functional ways. Functional training recognizes that speed and reaction always need to be optimized in all three planes of motion and throughout the entire biomechanical chain reaction. Speed and reaction are weakest link phenomenon. Speedy reactions and reactive speed are enhanced by the whole body's capacity to decelerate (load) and accelerate (explode) efficiently and effectively in task specific Transformational Zones. Better results are achieved in less time using Functional strategies and techniques in Transformational Zones
Christy ( visu )
1 edition published in 1996 in English and held by 4 libraries worldwide
Resiliency/adaptability : ( visu )
1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 4 libraries worldwide
This series presents information for functional analysis, injury prevention, physical rehabilitation, training and conditioning, and performance enhancement. In this episode, resiliency and adaptability is discussed. Traditional training tends to be oriented toward working within zones of predictability; then acquiring a certain "groove" that is achieved through repetition. Unpredictability is a truth of function. Consistent functional performance requires a robustness of capacity in the face of uncertainty, the ability to respond successfully to extreme motion, force, and time challenges. Resiliency and adaptability are secured by neural training and conditioning that takes place along the edges of functional chaos where failure generally occurs, these are the zones of functional transformation
The 3D dumbbell matrix ( visu )
in English and held by 3 libraries worldwide
Demonstrates how dumbbells can be incorporated into multi-planar movement exercises in order to promote functional fitness
Effectiveness/efficiency : ( visu )
1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
This series presents information for functional analysis, injury prevention, physical rehabilitation, training and conditioning, and performance enhancement. In this episode, effectiveness and efficiency is discussed. Traditional training tends to focus on the first level benefits of flexibility, strength, and cardio while giving little direct attention to issues of, and opportunities for, efficiency and effectiveness. Functional training focuses on the integration of the whole, neural, muscular, and skeletal in three planes of motion throughout the entire biomechanical chain. Such integration is made task specific by incorporating neural training in the task's transformation zone
The pelvic floor the functional approach ( visu )
1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
Pelvic floor training has to be done in a normal biomechanical physiological way. Our goal is to facilitate a transformation of the pelvic floor, to make us better and to maintain or develop subconscious pelvic floor control. Traditional pelvic floor exercises do not carry over to function. Traditional pelvic floor exercises do not treat the cause
Recovery/restoration ( visu )
1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
This series presents information for functional analysis, injury prevention, physical rehabilitation, training and conditioning, and performance enhancement. In this episode, recovery and restoration is discussed. Traditional training focuses on physiological aspects of re-hydration, recovery, and rest. Functional training focuses on an integrated functional process of three dimensional restoration, recovery, and rest of the biomechanical, physiological, and psychological systems that is activity specific. It also locks in the benefits of training, releases the effects of accumulated stress, facilitates restfulness, and enhances future readiness
Endurance/sustainability : ( visu )
1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
This series presents information for functional analysis, injury prevention, physical rehabilitation, training and conditioning, and performance enhancement. In this episode, endurance and sustainability is discussed. Traditional training programs tend to be biased toward narrowly defined, highly repetitive cardiovascular activities such as running, biking, etc. Functional training recognizes that endurance and sustainability are three dimensional simultaneously involving the body, the mind, and the spirit. Endurance and sustainability are enhanced by the body's capacity to distribute loads and vary performance parameters throughout its repertoire of biomechanical chain reaction options
Basketball lower extremity performance and prevention ( visu )
1 edition published in 2002 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
