Presents four short films inspired by the Ten Commandments. Each story corresponds to a commandment and centers on different residents of the same modern Warsaw apartment complex. An onlooker--the mysterious Young man appearing in each segment--provides the unifies the films. Decalogue IV: Anka is a young drama student who has a close relationship with her widowed father. When he goes on a trip abroad Anka finds a letter revealing that he may not be her real father. Decalogue V: A psychotic youth, randomly and brutally murders a taxi-driver and is subsequently put on trial and found guilty. Decalogue VI: A young man falls in love with an older woman who lives in an apartment across the courtyard. He watches her succession of lovers until she confronts him with a sexual invitation. Decalogue VII: Six-year-old Ania is the object of a struggle for possession between her mother and her grandmother.

Set in Warsaw in the 1950s. Sabina, a quiet, shy woman who has just turned thirty, lives together with her mother and her ailing grandmother. Sabina lacks a man in her life, and her mother tries hard to find a husband for her. Many suitors arrive, but Sabina rebuffs them. Finally Bronislaw shows up out of nowhere and Sabina falls in love with him but when he reveals that he is a member of the secret police and wants Sabina to spy on her boss at the state-run publishing house, things go from bad to worse.
