Auf der anderen seite = The edge of heaven ( Sound Recording )
1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 3 libraries worldwide
Directed by the German-born director Fatih Akim, 'The Edge of Heaven' won the "Best Screenplay" award at the Cannes Film Festival 2007, when it was universally acclaimed. Set in Germany and Turkey, the film follows the fragile lives of six people, who linked by death, connect on emotional journeys toward forgiveness and reconciliation. The original music for the score was composed by the acclaimed Bucovina mastermind Shantel. Accompanying the protagonists, the music moves between traditional tracks from Istanbul and the Black Sea - home of the much too short-lived singer/songwriter Kazim Koyuncu, who wrote the main track - and Balkan club and dub sounds. Shantel has taken these sounds and composed a haunting, atmospheric score in which he fuses the different influences in his own unique style

Soul kitchen by Fatih Akin( visu )
1 edition published in 2011 in German and held by 1 library worldwide
"Soul Kitchen" is Zinos Kazantsakis's humdrum restaurant in a working-class neighborhood of Hamburg. The food is mostly frozen, unceremoniously zapped in the microwave, or thrown into a vat of bubbling grease. He loves his restaurant and his girlfriend Nadine, even after she leaves him for an assignment in China. Wanting to liven up the restaurant, Zinos hires an out-of-work three-star chef, lets his ex-con brother Ilias spin records, and seeks out new clientele. Soon Soul Kitchen is reborn as Hamburg's newest hot spot. On a whim, Zinos flies to China to rekindle his relationship with Nadine leaving his brother in charge. There is also a slipped disc, a hard-drinking, chain-smoking waitress, a scheming real-estate developer, a Turkish "physio-healer," and a high stakes poker game in the mix. But the film is not about food or love; it's about family, life and human relationships, with a lingering nostalgia for a time when eating out implied getting dead drunk, stuffing one's face with cholesterol and kissing across the table
