The matrix collection ( visu )
2 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 323 libraries worldwide
Contains four films about a computer hacker who realizes the world is an elaborate deception created by all-powerful machines of artificial intelligence. In Matrix, in an anti-utopian future, the "real" world is a computer construct, created by an all-powerful artificial intelligence. A small group of humans has found a way out of the construct and is now fighting for the future of the human race. In Matrix reloaded, Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus continue to lead the revolt against the Machine Army. In their quest to save the human race from extinction, they gain greater insight into the construction of The Matrix and Neo's pivotal role in the fate of mankind. In Matrix revolutions, Neo remains unconscious in the real world, caught in a mysterious subway station that lies between the machine world and the matrix. Bane is still a conduit for Agent Smith, who continues to grow more out of control. Meanwhile, the sentinels are coming dangerously close to Zion. Neo, after meeting The Oracle, decides he must leave Zion and go for the machine mainframe. The Animatrix is a collection of nine animated short films, detailing the backstory of the "Matrix" universe, and the original war between man and machines which led to the creation of the Matrix
Random passage ( visu )
1 edition published in 2008 in English and held by 238 libraries worldwide
This mini-series follows the fortunes, mostly misfortunes, of a group of Irish and English immigrants who come to Newfoundland in the early 19th century. Hoping for a better life, they find themselves instead in the remote, unpopulated, and hostile landscape of Cape Random, struggling to survive. The settlers face extremely harsh conditions and catastrophes that range from devastating storms to bear attacks, yet the small outport community staggers on. The story revolves around the capable Vincents, who run the cod fishing industry; enigmatic Thomas Hutchings, bookkeeper for the absentee owner of the fishing rights; the Andrews family, evicted from their home in England; and Mary Keane, orphaned Irish tenant girl, who shrinks from nothing in the fight for survival. Wrestling their existence from sparse soil and the capricious ocean, the strength and endurance of these early settlers--especially the women--is at the center of this narrative of what life must have been like in these remote places 200 years ago

Letters from Uncle Val by Andy Jones( file )
3 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 21 libraries worldwide
One of comedian Andy Jones' great creations, Uncle Val is a curmudgeonly old man, a dry wit, and an incisive critic of modern society. Between 1986 and 1989 Uncle Val, an elderly outharbour gentleman, wrote nineteen letters from his new home in the suburbs of St. John's to his old friend Jack back home. Val's move from the Bay to the 'burbs' to live with his daughter, her obnoxious husband, their youngsters and two useless poodles is an uneasy one. His slow adjustment and eventual appreciation for life in town is endearingly revealed through his letters to Jack. Written by Andy Jones with Michael Jones Sr. Performed by Andy Jones. Dedicated to the Memory of Francis Colbert

Jack and the manger by Andy Jones( Book )
1 edition published in 2010 in English and held by 9 libraries worldwide
The second in an ongoing series of Jack stories, featuring retellings and adaptations by Andy Jones, and illustrations by Darka Erdelji. The first, The Queen of Paradise's Garden, was published by Running the Goat in 2009. This story was partly inspired by Jonathan Goldstein's retellings of Bible stories, and by Mary Walsh and Cathy Jones's "Deb and Sheila" sketch. The narrative voice was inspired by the oral traditions of Newfoundland and Labrador, and uses the energy of the dialect and verbal traditions to capture the cadence of the language. The author has created a voice that is more musical than it is grammatical
