The love of the last tycoon : a western by F. Scott Fitzgerald( Book )
3 editions published between 2006 and 2010 in German and held by 23 libraries worldwide
Even in its incomplete form, The Love of The Last Tycoon: A Western has achieved a reputation as the best Hollywood novel. When F. Scott Fitzgerald died in 1940 he had written seventeen of thirty projected episodes. In 1941 the "unfinished novel" was published in a text for general readers by Edmund Wilson under the title The Last Tycoon. For more than fifty years that edition, which disguises the state of Fitzgerald's work in progress, has been the only one available. This critical edition of The Love of The Last Tycoon utilizes Fitzgerald's manuscript drafts, revised typescripts, and working notes to establish the first authoritative text of the brilliant work in progress. The volume includes a detailed history of the gestation, composition, and publication of the novel; an explanation of editorial principles; full textual apparatus with editorial notes; facsimiles of the drafts; and explanatory notes on topical allusions and historical references for contemporary readers. The reconstruction of Fitzgerald's intentions for the thirteen unwritten episodes is particularly useful. F. Scott Fitzgerald's incomplete masterpiece is accurately restored to its 1940 state (with editorial emendation of non-functional errors) and thus made fully accessible to a cross-section of readers

The deportees and other stories by Roddy Doyle( Book )
2 editions published in 2011 in German and held by 19 libraries worldwide
"Almost all of the funny and poignant tales of Roddy Doyle's first-ever collection of stories have one thing in common: Someone born in Ireland meets someone who has come to live there. In "Guess Who's Coming for the Dinner," a father who prides himself on his open-mindedness when his daughters talk about sex is forced to confront his feelings when one of them brings home a black man. "New Boy" describes the first day of school for a nine-year-old boy from Africa while in "The Pram," a ghost story, a Polish nanny grows impatient with her charge's older sisters and decides - in a new phrase she has learned - to "scare them shitless." In "57% Irish," a man decides to devise a test of Irishness by measuring reactions to three things: "Riverdance," the song "Danny Boy" and Robbie Keane's goal against Germany in the 2002 World Cup. And in the title story, a sequel, of sorts, to Doyle's very first novel, The Commitments, Jimmy Babbitte decides that it is time to form a new band - a multi-cultural outfit that specializes not in soul music but in the folk songs of Woody Guthrie."--Jacket

When a noble youth arrives unannounced to request the hand of the matchless Laura, it seems their future is one of contentment and bliss -- that is until his family learn of the marriage and, one by one, they reject the new bride. So begins the series of unspeakable events that Laura must confront and overcome, by way of the occasional fainting fit and bout of delirium. Tragedy and comedy here go hand in hand as a very foolish young heroine is placed at the centre of Jane Austen's early satire on drawing-room society. Written as a series of letters, 'Love and Friendship' is a delicious romp through the highs and lows of a young girl's lot in life and a precursor of Austen's later works of genius. It is accompanied by 'The Three Sisters', another expertly crafted epistolary novel, and the brilliant 'A Collection of Letters' which has been described by Fay Weldon as 'five just about perfect short stories'
