Marcello Rubini, a frustrated 'serious' writer, does tabloid journalism to make ends meet. He spends every evening in Via Veneto awaiting the next scandal, party invitation, or sexual proposition. From an enigmatic woman named Maddalena, to wealthy intellectual Steiner's penthouse, to a famous actress named Sylvia, Marcello finds himself caught up in the carnival spectacle of nightlife and its fleeting happiness. The empty evenings seem to weave together, a decadent rhythm punctuated only by the regret of the following morning. Marcello is consumed by self-doubt and unable to enjoy the success he has, and so stumbles on, dreaming of attaining the elusive sweet life

Katyn by Andrzej Wajda( visu )
3 editions published between 2007 and 2009 in Polish and held by 774 libraries worldwide

The bridge by Eric Steel( visu )
4 editions published between 2007 and 2015 in English and held by 657 libraries worldwide
"In 2004, 24 people jumped to their deaths from the Golden Gate Bridge. More people have chosen to end their lives at the Golden Gate Bridge than anywhere else in the world."--End titles. What makes the suicides at the bridge so unusual is that they take place in broad daylight, in front of people in a busy place - unlike most suicides, which are enacted in extreme privacy. Filmmaker Eric Steel and his crew spent 2004 filming the bridge during daylight hours from two locations, grappling with the ethical question of when to alert authorities, and their responsibilities as observers. The film features interviews with the families and friends of some of the victims that year, as well as one person who changed his mind. Offering a glimpse into one of the darkest, most impenetrable corners of the human mind, the film also interrogates society's ability to blithely ignore the grim realities of depression, mental illness, and drug abuse that underly so many suicides. These are only some of the factors discussed by the film, common to the twenty four people who died at the Golden Gate Bridge in 2004, who are now linked together forever by a 4 second fall in an otherwise magically, mysteriously beautiful place
Imaginary witness Hollywood and the Holocaust by Daniel Anker( visu )
3 editions published between 2004 and 2014 in English and held by 610 libraries worldwide
Through film excerpts of Hollywood's most important Holocaust movies this documentary tells the story of the American film industry's complex and contradictory responses to the horrors of Nazi Germany. Imaginary Witness takes us on a 60-year journey, from America's ambivalence and denial during the rise of Nazism, through the silence of the post-war years, to finally when those most deeply affected by the events - the survivors - began to speak and Hollywood's artistic community responded with moving, powerful films like Schindler's List and The Pianist, attracting millions of viewers worldwide. Told through first-hand accounts of directors, actors, writers, and producers this documentary asks hard questions about the uneasy relationship between American popular culture and the Holocaust. We find out about the difficulties and responsibility of filmmakers as they re-imagine for the screen the horrors of Nazi Germany and how film itself has the power to shape and reflect history and memory. Featuring candid interviews with directors Steven Spielberg, Sidney Lumet, Dan Curtis, Vincent Sherman, actor Rod Steiger in his last interview talking about his most acclaimed role ever in The Pawnbroker, survivors, including actor Robert Clary and producer Branko Lustig, unique footage from newsreels and the movies through the decades, including Schindler's List, Sophie's Choice, Mortal Storm, Confessions of a Nazi Spy, Diary of Anne Frank, Underground, The Pianist, the TV and film versions of Judgement at Nuremburg (the latter with Spencer Tracy), and the TV miniseries Holocaust and War and Remembrance.--Kanopy
