Summary: After the death of her husband Hanna returns to Germany. In desperation she searches for her son who was adopted. She finds him at last in the house of the famous conductor Garvenberg. In order to be near her child Hanna obtains the position of governess without Garvenberg's knowledge. But when Mrs Garvenberg dies from an overdose of morphia Hanna's true identity is revealed.
