This study surveyed 59 transit entities in North America to identify the best practices and key factors that contribute to the successful interaction between transit agencies and freight railroads. A total of 47 agencies including commuter rail, heavy rail, and light rail transits responded, which derives a response rate of 80 percent. This study produced a best practice catalog, based on the survey responses and subsequent data analysis, which may be referenced by transit agencies when dealing with passenger and freight rail interaction issues. Besides the catalog, we also examined critical issues and concerns of both transit and rail freight industries when they share track, right of way, facility, or a corridor with each other

The primary objectives of this research are to provide residents and travelers in New Jersey who have Limited English Proficiency (LEP) with the ability to gain essential access to New Jersey's transportation opportunities, such as bus, rail, road, water and air and to further New Jersey transportation agencies' compliance with Title VI regulations as they pertain to the avoidance of discrimination against people of different national origins or language proficiency. To find methods to convey mobility information to LEP persons, we have studied the practices of a variety of American and non-American agencies including transportation organizations, international airports, and other internationally oriented activity centers

In order to understand the customer impact and ridership retention of the Hudson Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) extension, NJ TRANSIT and the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) gathered a research team to conduct a study composed of a platform survey, travel behavior change analyses, and ridership impact estimates. To measure the public benefit of investment in transit, the research team explored the comprehensive impact of the HBLR extension and highlighted the specific impact on travel behavior, such as mode shift, ridership retention, and utilization of intermodal transportation systems.
