KP narrates that when GP arrived to the monastery probably in 1948, he was in very poor health. He was already baptized and behaved like a catholic lad of about eleven. She was a sister at the monastery and took care of him, introduced him to the other orphans and told only the three oldest that he was a Jew. GP thought that KP was the only one who knew of his Jewish identity. She describes his behavior at school, his decision to become a priest and the difficulties he encountered. KP denied that she or the other nuns influenced him to convert to Christianity. The Kestenbergs suggested that perhaps it is a result of his feelings of guilt that he didn't stay with his mother during the war and didn't protect her. During the entire interview, Sister K tried not to emphasize his difficulties in Polish society who disapproved of his Jewish origins, his difficulties with his Jewish family who are upset that GP chose to become a priest and his difficulties with the Israeli authorities who at first wanted to withhold his Israeli citizenship. She preferred to speak about his wonderful character, his work with the Christian community in Jaffa and with Polish pilgrims visiting Israel
