Evolutionary patterns of tooth shape in relation to diet inferred by stable carbon isotope of tooth enamel in murine rodents from the Miocene of northern Pakistan by Yuri Kimura( Book )
2 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
I evaluate morphological evolution of tooth shape relative to isotopic dietary inference in two sympatric clades of murine rodents (here called Karnimata and Progonomys clades) from the Miocene (13.8 to 6.5 Ma) of northern Pakistan. Murine samples from the region record the origin of the group to its diversification into the clades, beginning before and continuing through a transitional interval from C3- to C4-dominated vegetation. Carbon isotope values in enamel of first lower molars were obtained by laser-ablation GC-IRMS to infer paleodiet. Tooth shape of upper first molars was defined by morphometric distance of ecomorphological characters and 2D geometric morphometric analysis of tooth outline
New sicistine mice (Sicistinae, Rodentia, Mammalia) from the Early Miocene of Gashunyinadege, Inner Mongolia, China by Yuri Kimura( Book )
2 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
Sicistine fossils from Gashunyinadege, the oldest Neogene and only known Early Miocene locality in central Inner Mongolia, include six genera (Heterosminthus, Plesiosminthus, Litodonomys, Aplodonomys gen. nov., Rotondasminthus gen. nov., and Sicista) and nine species, including four named new species (P. vengrandis sp. nov., L. mininus, A. vexillum sp. nov., R. eknomios sp. nov.). Statistical and cladistic results indicate that (1) Heterosminthus gansus is one of the most derived species of Heterosminthus; (2) the most basal species of both Plesiosminthus and Sicista are North American; (3) however, phylogenetic analysis shows these genera to have originated in East Asia because of the phylogenetic, geographic and chronological distribution of species of the genera. Nevertheless, derived Sicista species from Eurasia may be of North American descent
