11 editions published in 1991 in English and held by 30 libraries worldwide
This report summarizes Gulf Region commercial Atlantic salmon catch data for 1987 and 1988. Information on catch-timing and mean weight of salmon caught in the commercial fishery is used to adjust season opening and closing dates to increase spawning escapement. Information compiled included commercial loadings, local sales, the community nearest the fisherman's berth, and weights and sizes of salmon caught. License data includes number of fishermen and net length in fathoms. Monthly sales summaries are presented as the percentage of total weights (regardless of size) sold locally in each statistical unit

The effect of a commercial fishery moratorium & other management changes on adult salmon returns is examined based on fish count trends. Changes in spawning escapements are also evaluated relative to established conservation requirements. In addition, marine survival of smolts is evaluated relative to pre-moratorium years and possible causes of variable marine survival are discussed
Status of the Atlantic salmon stock (Salmo salar L.) of Harry's River/Pinchgut Brook, Newfoundland, 2000 by C. C Mullins( Book )
10 editions published between 2000 and 2001 in English and French and held by 6 libraries worldwide
This report provides an estimate of the spawning escapement of salmon on Harry's River, south-west Newfoundland, in 2000, based on counts of small & large salmon at a counting fence operated on Pinchgut Brook, the main tributary in the headwaters, and on spawning surveys of the entire system conducted in 1995-97. The status of the salmon resource is assessed relative to established conservation requirements and relative to previous years, with consideration for associated uncertainties

This report examines adult salmon returns and spawning escapements on three rivers in north-west Newfoundland, as determined from data collected at counting facilities on the rivers. It also presents calculations of conservation requirements in terms of eggs and data on the recreational salmon fishery, smolt counts & survival rates, and observations of bird predation
Status of the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) stock of Harry's River/Pinchgut Brook, Newfoundland, 1998 by C. C Mullins( Book )
3 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 6 libraries worldwide
This document presents the seventh assessment of the status of the Atlantic salmon stock of Harry's River in western Newfoundland since 1992. The status of the stock is assessed relative to the conservation requirement, based on counts of adult salmon at the counting fence on the Pinchgut Brook tributary and spawning surveys of the entire river system
Status of the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) stock of Harry's River/Pinchgut Brook, Newfoundland, 1999 by C. C Mullins( Book )
6 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 6 libraries worldwide
This is the fifth assessment of the status of Atlantic salmon stock of Harry's River, western Newfoundland, since 1995. It provides an estimate of the total spawning escapement in 1999 based on counts at the counting fence operated on the Pinchgut Brook tributary since 1992 and spawning surveys of the entire river system in 1995-97. The status of the resource is assessed relative to established conservation requirements and relative to previous years, with consideration for associated uncertainties. Sources of uncertainty in the results and potential sources of fish mortality are also discussed
Status of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) stocks of three selected rivers in Salmon Fishing Area 14A, 1998 by C. C Mullins( Book )
3 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 5 libraries worldwide
This report uses data from counting facilities and recreational fisheries to evaluate the status of Atlantic salmon stocks on the Lomond River, Torrent River, and Western Arm Brook on the north-west coast of Newfoundland. Results are presented & discussed with regard to adult returns, spawning escapements, conservation requirements, potential egg depositions, and smolt production & survival. Recommendations are made regarding the recreational fishery & further monitoring of these salmon stocks
Recreational Atlantic salmon catch, 1986, and annual summaries, 1953-1986 for West Newfoundland and South Labrador, Gulf Region by C. C Mullins( Book )
4 editions published between 1988 and 1989 in English and held by 5 libraries worldwide
First in a series of angling data reports for the West Newfoundland and South Labrador Atlantic Salmon Recreational Fisheries. It is a continuation of a similar series of reports published from 1973-83 for all of Newfoundland and Labrador. Data for this report were compiled from salmon angling reports completed weekly for 52 scheduled salmon rivers by fisheries officers and guardians. Data were recorded daily for each river or river segment, including water level, observed and estimated rod-days, observed and estimated grilse landings, observed and estimated large salmon landings in South Labrador (hook and release of large salmon landings in Western Newfoundland by season), and other observations. Annual summaries of catch and effort from 1953-86 are presented by the same categories as the weekly summaries
Status of the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) stock of Humber River, Newfoundland, 1998 by C. C Mullins( Book )
3 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 5 libraries worldwide
This is the ninth assessment of the status of Atlantic salmon stock of the Humber River in western Newfoundland since 1990. It provides an estimate of salmon returns & spawning escapements in 1998, based on a mark-recapture study and recreational fishery surveys. Angling exploitation rate, potential egg depositions, and the conservation requirement in terms of egg deposition are also estimated
Commercial Atlantic salmon catch for Western Newfoundland and Southern Labrador, Gulf Region : annual summaries, 1974-1990 and weekly catches, 1989-1990 by R. A Jones( Book )
4 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 5 libraries worldwide
Report providing catch and effort data in the Atlantic salmon commercial and recreational fisheries in Newfoundland and Labrador from 1974 to 1990. Weekly catches and mean weight for 1989 and 1990 have been summarized by sub-division. Monthly summaries comparing local and plant sales for 1989 and 1990 have also been summarized by the same sub-divisions. The commercial fishery in 1989 was regulated by seasons, license, and gear restrictions. Regulation of the fishery was increased in 1990 with the introduction of landed, round weight quotas. Data collection and compilation methods are similar to those of previous reports
An Analysis of the license stub return system in the Newfoundland region, 1994-97 by M. F O'Connell( Book )
3 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 5 libraries worldwide
The license stub return system was implemented in the Newfoundland Region in 1994 as an alternative method of collecting Atlantic salmon recreational fishery catch and effort data. In this report, information obtained from the stub system is compared to that provided by Department of Fisheries and Oceans River Guardians during 1994-97 (for Labrador only in 1997). Comparisons are also made with results obtained from creel surveys conducted in Middle Brook, Bonavista Bay and Pinware River, Labrador in 1997. Reported catch & effort data are extrapolated to the entire angling population using a modification of the bias correction technique developed for rivers in Nova Scotia

Status of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) stock of Harry's River/Pinchgut Brook, Newfoundland, 1998 ( file )
1 edition published in 1999 in English and held by 0 libraries worldwide
Harry's River is the most northerly of the eight scheduled Atlantic salmon rivers flowing into Bay St. George, Salmon Fishing Area (SFA) 13. The recreational fishery on this river was under quota management until 1995 and the river has been closed to retention angling since 1996. In 1993-95, after the introduction of the commercial fishery moratorium, recreational catches of small salmon remained among the lowest on record but large salmon showed signs of improvement. However, estimates of spawning escapements in those years indicate that the population size of both small and large salmon remained at a low level. This document presents the seventh assessment of the status of the Atlantic salmon stock of Harry's River since 1992. The status of the stock is assessed relative to the conservation requirement based on counts of adult salmon at the counting fence on Pinchgut Brook tributary and spawning surveys of the entire river system
