IT governance : how top performers manage IT decision rights for superior results by Peter Weill( Book )
27 editions published between 1998 and 2010 in English and Undetermined and held by 521 libraries worldwide
Seventy percent of all IT projects fail-and scores of books have attempted to help firms measure and manage IT systems and processes better in order to turn this figure aroundIn this book, IT experts Peter D. Weill and Jeanne W. Ross argue that the real reason IT fails to deliver value is that companies have no formal system in place for guiding and monitoring IT decisions. Their research shows that firms with explicit IT governance systems have twice the profit of firms with poor governance, given the same strategic objectives. Just as corporate governance systems aim to ensure quality decisions about corporate assets, the authors show, companies need IT governance systems to ensure that IT investments are made wisely and effectively
Enterprise architecture as strategy : creating a foundation for business execution by Jeanne W Ross( Book )
17 editions published between 2006 and 2012 in English and held by 405 libraries worldwide
Does it seem you've formulated a rock-solid strategy, yet your firm still can't get ahead? If so, construct a solid foundation for business execution--an IT infrastructure and digitized business processes to automate your company's core capabilities. In Enterprise Architecture as Strategy: Creating a Foundation for Business Execution, authors Jeanne W. Ross, Peter Weill, and David C. Robertson show you how. The key? Make tough decisions about which processes you must execute well, then implement the IT systems needed to digitize those processes. Citing numerous companies worldwide, the authors show how constructing the right enterprise architecture enhances profitability and time to market, improves strategy execution, and even lowers IT costs. Though clear, engaging explanation, they demonstrate how to define your operating model--your vision of how your firm will survive and grow--and implement it through your enterprise architecture. Their counterintuitive but vital message: when it comes to executing your strategy, your enterprise architecture may matter far more than your strategy itself

The relationship between investment in information technology and firm performance in the manufacturing sector by Peter Weill( Book )
10 editions published between 1988 and 1990 in English and held by 19 libraries worldwide
Enormous amounts of resources have been and continue to be invested in information technology (IT). Much of this investment is made on the basis of blind faith that "real" returns will occur. This situation is of particular concern in the manufacturing sector where U.S. firms must compete against foreign firms with substantially lower labor costs. Previous studies of IT investment have generally not been able to establish a strong relationship with firm performance. This study proposes a model to assist in understanding the mechanism of IT investment and presents the results of an empirical test of that model in the manufacturing sector. The researcher collected six years of historical data on IT investment and performance for 33 valve manufacturing firms. A survey was the primary methodology; the CEO, the controller and the production manager each completed a different questionnaire. In addition half the controllers were interviewed by telephone and two firms were visited
