Lisa Della Casa may have been Mozart's ideal Countess. Her aristocratic presence and silvery voice lit up the stage wherever she performed. This broadcast mark's Della Casa's final appearance at the Met, and she's surrounded by an incomparable cast that makes this rich comedy sparkle. Tom Krause is her philandering husband; Cesare Siepi and Mirella Freni, as the servants Figaro and Susanna, are the ideal foils to their aristocratic masters; and Teresa Stratas is a Cherubino to tempt anyone

3 editions published between 1961 and 1985 in German and held by 11 libraries worldwide
An all-star cast delivers a stunningly dramatic performance of Strauss's landmark opera: Inge Borkh sings the title role of the royal daughter obsessed with avenging her father's murder. Leonie Rysanek is her sister, Chrysothemis, who longs for peace of mind and a normal life. The great Jean Madeira is their guilt-ridden mother, Klytämnestra, and Hermann Uhde sings Orest, the long-lost brother who finally brings about revenge. Ramon Vinay co-stars as Aegisth and Joseph Rosenstock conducts
Tristan und Isolde by Richard Wagner( file )
1 edition published in 1961 in German and held by 9 libraries worldwide
Wagner's revolutionary score changed the world of music with its radical portrayal of an all-consuming passion that can only be fulfilled in death. The legendary Birgit Nilsson sings Isolde, one of her greatest roles, in her second Met season. Karl Liebl is Tristan, the man she loves--and the best friend of the man she is forced to marry. Jerome Hines is the sorrowful King Marke and Irene Dalis sings Isolde's stalwart companion, Brangäne

This broadcast of Wagner's most romantic opera stars René Kollo as the knight of the Holy Grail who arrives in a boat pulled by a swan to defend the innocent Elsa, played by Pilar Lorengar. Mignon Dunn is the dark and malevolent Ortrud who poisons the couple's happiness, with some help from her husband, Telramund (Donald McIntyre). James Levine leads the Met orchestra, bringing out the shimmer and the thunder of the score, along with every shade of expression in between

L'Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi( Sound Recording )
1 edition published in 2006 in Italian and held by 7 libraries worldwide
Taped at La Monnaie in Brussels in May 1998, this production of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo has become an operatic classic in a few short years. Choreographer/director Trisha Brown, conductor René Jacobs, and designer Roland Aeschlimann have created an ideal fusion of words, action, sight, and sound, one that never lets the viewer down and manages to tell the story in an elegant, unusual, and ultimately intensely moving manner
Vorbei-- Beyond recall ( Sound Recording )

Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg by Richard Wagner( Sound Recording )
4 editions published between 1987 and 2004 in German and Undetermined and held by 4 libraries worldwide
Not many companies have the resources to put on Wagner's only comedy with all the élan it deserves. The Met does, particularly when Music Director James Levine is conducting: his affection for the work is matched only by his skill at bringing it to life. Levine leads a top-flight cast of solo singers, plus a huge chorus and orchestra. James Morris conveys all of Hans Sachs wisdom, and humanity; Karita Mattila sparkles as Eva, the young woman in love with Walther, the impetuous knight, ardently sung by Ben Heppner
The Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts classic Met performances-- live! ( Sound Recording )
1 edition published in 2008 in Italian and held by 4 libraries worldwide

Così fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart( Sound Recording )
2 editions published between 1985 and 1986 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
Two sisters whose fiancés have gone off to war (or so they pretend), a clever maid, a cynical old philosopher, and those same two fiancés in disguise--six characters is all it takes for Mozart and his librettist, Lorenzo Da Ponte, to explore both the fun and the heartbreak that love can lead to in this equally lighthearted and deeply human comedy. James Levine masterfully leads a stellar cast that includes Carol Vaness and Tatiana Troyanos as the sisters, Jerry Hadley and Thomas Hampson as their fiancés, Betsy Norden as Despina, and Richard Van Allen as Don Alfonso
Concert symphonique pour piano et orchestre : op. 4 by Joseph Rosenstock( score )
