The epic saga of legendary Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt, and her attempt to stabilize her power and gain control of the Roman Empire. When Caesar visits Egypt, Cleopatra gains control by ousting her brother with his help. She marries Caesar, and bears him the son fate had previously denied him. Joining him in Rome--to ensure that the boy takes his rightful place after his father--her plans are thwarted when Caesar is assassinated and she must flee. Years later Marc Antony, proconsul of the eastern half of the empire, seeks an alliance with Egypt to impede Octavian's quest to become Emperor. Cleopatra and Antony become lovers and form a military alliance, but are forced to retreat after losing a major naval battle at Actium. Avoiding capture and disgrace, they take their own lives.

Tullivers, former residence of the old Admiral and his sister, had been empty for many months when, one bright April day, some discreet onlookers saw a good-looking woman pushing her way through the nettles to the front door. Who was she? Had she bought the house, and if so, what kind of a neighbour would she be? These were just some of the questions asked by the curious residents of Thrush Green, a village bubbling with conflict, calamities and delights.

Enjoy two heartwarming Christmas tales, now on CD, by one of Britain's beloved storytellers. In The Christmas Mouse, a mouse's appearance on Christmas Eve in an old widow's bedroom leads to a chance encounter with a small boy; a meeting that would be remembered by both of them for a very long time. In No Holly for Miss Quinn, the three young children of Miss Quinn's brother are staying with her while their mother is in the hospital. Usually preferring to be left alone at Christmas, Miss Quinn's stern sense of duty is undermined by preparations for Christmas, the infectious enthusiasm of the children, and the unexpected arrival of an old flame.

"When Miss Read receives a magnificent diary for Christmas instead of the more customary bath salts, she decides she must make good use of it. In each chapter of her diary, Miss Read recounts a month in her life as headmistress of Fairacres School. With kindly humor, she relates all the difficulties and all the enjoyment of living in a small country community. Her jollity lasts even through staff problems, a village decision to marry her off, and a nagging cleaning lady. But when she writes about her younger pupils, that amusement breaks into laughter" -- from publisher's web site.

All speculation ends when Peter and Diana Hale arrive in Fairacre to view Tyler's Row, with plans to create their own rural haven. However, the Hales soon discover that Fairacre is no Utopia, but a normal English village, with all the usual ups and downs.
