Discusses his career with the Midland Workshop, that began in 1946, as a cleaner then a fireman. However he contracted polio in 1954 and was on sick leave for nine months. On his return to the workshops he had to go back as a trade assistant, making nuts, bolts and spikes. He later found a job as a sub-foreman's office assistant and clerk in the records section. He describes the jobs he had, the conditions of work in the Midland workshops and the behaviour and interactions for light relief of the workers. He discusses the union activities of the time, the First Aid service, train travel, clothing allocation, talents of the employees, and social activities

Lucky began working at the Midland Railway Workshops in 1943, leaving in 1948. He describes his family background and the kind of work he did at Midland. He left to work with diesel engines and became a marine engineer. He recalls many details of working at the Midland Workshops, with anecdotes of the people there at the time

Nick began as an apprentice in the workshops in 1958, leaving in 1965. His father also worked there from 1952-1978. As an apprentice, he performed a variety of tasks, but having gained his Draftsman's certificate, he got a job in the drawing office. After his 5 year apprenticeship, he moved to State Engineering, where he ultimately became chief draftsman, and after many years he moved into a government agency. He was a high level manager in the Department of Industrial Development and regularly in touch with the Minister. He discusses his activities trying to bring Commonwealth defense contracts to W.A. as the Dept.'s representative in Canberra to 1988. He continued his role in the industry development side of providing assistance to companies under the National Industry Extension Scheme. With Government restructuring of the Public Service he worked in the new Dept. of State Development with the task of maximising the local industry involvement in major projects: also known as local content development. At the time of interview Nick was still with the Public Service- in the restructured Dept. of Mineral and Petroleum Resorces and planning what to do with his future, especially if made redundant and forced to resign. He finishes by discussing his education and the effects and impact on his health and life of his early work experiences at the Midland Railway Workshops

Born in Kalgoorlie, Mr Moiler discusses his career at the Midland Workshops which he commenced in 1932, as an apprentice carpenter and joiner. He retired in 1975. His main interest was football, and he played 98 games with Swan Districts between 1935 and 1941. He later became an umpire and then a committee member. He still follows the Swans and is a life member. He was also involved in football and sport at the workshop. In 1939, he married and lived in Bassendean, close to the football oval.His career at the workshop involved draftsmanship, and he became an inspector, ultimately a Rolling Stock Timber inspector. He was there for 43 years and found the work satisfying. He was a founding member of a voluntary fire brigade. In retirement, he recalls his working life with fondness and was grateful to find and hold down a job in the depression years
