The 2005 World Series film ( visu )
1 edition published in 2005 in English and held by 82 libraries worldwide
In the 2005 World Series, the Chicago White Sox became the latest long-suffering team to celebrate a championship for the first time since World War I, beating the Houston Astros in a four-game sweep. Houston, which finally won a pennant for the first time since it joined the National League in 1962, became the first team swept in its Series debut. While the Windy City celebrated the White Sox--who hadn't won a Series since 1917 and hadn't played in one since 1959--fans didn't get to enjoy a single celebration in person, as the division title and all three rounds of the postseason were won on the road, a baseball first. No longer will the White Sox be remembered for Shoeless Joe Jackson's Black Sox, who threw the 1919 Series against Cincinnati, but rather as champions -- improbable as that might seem

In 2006, the St. Louis Cardinals captured the franchise's 10th World Series championship. A team that went 83-78 in the regular season, that sustained two eight-game losing streaks and another seven-game skid, had to go to the last day of the season to secure the division title. After going 11-5 in the playoffs, the Redbirds claimed the biggest prize of all. At the end of September, only the truest of true believers were still on the bandwagon, but the playoff opener in San Diego the Cardinals played with sharpness, purpose, and passion. After a season of doubt, they played like champions in October

The New York Mets 1986 World Series ( visu )
9 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 60 libraries worldwide
In 1986, the New York Mets won the World Series, defeating the Boston Red Sox in some of the most memorable baseball ever played. For he last half of the 10th inning in Game 6, Rod Serling couldn't have written a better script. The 10-pitch battle between pitcher Bob Stanley and Mets outfielder Mookie Wilson ended when Wilson hit a slow rolling ground ball up the first base line that got through Sox first baseman Bill Buckner's legs. The Mets won the game 6-5, and deadlocked the Series at three all. Game 7 was postponed for 24 hours because of rain, and by then the 8-5 Mets win seemed a tad anticlimactic, while the crowd was well behaved in their celebration of the city's first championship in eight years
