George is prosecuted for the murder of Ruth. Helena's ex-husband remarries, and his wife has twins. Kit has an operation which leaves him in a coma. When Helena realizes that Angela has been secretly visiting Kit's father, she plots to poison the twins, but another child eats the poisoned cake instead. Helena discovers that Kit has been visiting his father for years, and so, she tries to kill him in the hospital, but is stopped by Angela

Helena refuses to allow her son to see his father after their divorce because of her obsessive jealousy. Unbeknownst to her, her son Kit has been visiting his father for years, but does not tell his mother for fear that she will commit suicide when she discovers his disloyalty. He enlists his wife, Angela, in this deception when he marries. When Helena discovers that her trusted cousin, George, has also been secretly visiting her ex-husband and his family for years, she plots to have her ex-husband's wife killed and frames George for the murder. At the end of the episode, Andrew Davies and Diana Rigg talk about the making of this program
