My big apartment = Mon grand appartement by Christian Oster( Book )
36 editions published between 1999 and 2010 in 6 languages and held by 553 libraries worldwide
Winner of the prestigious Prix Medicis and a bestseller in France, My Big Apartment is a humorous and ironic look at the serious subject of growing up. Always accessible but never facile, Christian Oster's books tell of the endless human quest for love and equilibrium in the world. Oster's gift is to make this timeless theme new through deadpan humor, a slyly cerebral style, and a deeply ingrained sense of melancholy. Gavarine, the gentle but immature protagonist of My Big Apartment, is ambitious only in the search for love. When he loses the keys to his apartment, he loses much more than access to his home. Yet through a true comedy of errors Gavarine ends up finding everything he was looking for, in a way he could never have expected. Though My Big Apartment can be read purely as a wry romantic comedy, the language is unfailingly rich in implications; there is always more going on in this story than meets the eye. At once unapologetically sentimental and overtly intellectual, Oster's writing belongs to that particular strain of French literature in which seriousness and jest, or passion and the cerebral, fruitfully coexist without effort or contradiction
A cleaning woman by Christian Oster( Book )
43 editions published between 2000 and 2013 in 11 languages and held by 358 libraries worldwide
"This novel offers the unique perspective of a heartbroken man desperately infatuated with a woman he has just met. We hear his wistful appreciation of her every tuft of hair and catch each dust mote that hovers over them. Meanwhile, the narrator's possessive gaze blinds his ability to see himself at all. His dryness teases the reader into believing in his modesty, while we see him hilariously exposed when the story unravels around him."--Jacket
The unforeseen : a novel by Christian Oster( Book )
9 editions published between 2005 and 2007 in French and English and held by 327 libraries worldwide
The unnamed narrator claims that he lives with a constant low-level cold, and that he inevitably infects every woman with whom he is in a relationship. He loves his partner, Laure, who has, for the past year, proven impervious to infection. As the two set off in their car for a friend's birthday party on the distant island of Braz, Laure is seized with cold symptoms. It shocks her, and the resulting chain of events, closely observed from the narrator's perspective, makes up the rest of the book

Rouler by Christian Oster( Book )
7 editions published between 2011 and 2012 in French and held by 92 libraries worldwide
