Shockwave : countdown to Hiroshima by Stephen Walker( Book )
13 editions published between 2005 and 2014 in English and Japanese and held by 1,915 libraries worldwide
On a quiet Monday morning in August 1945, the first atomic bomb detonated as expected, resulting in nearly 100,000 deaths. The Japanese surrendered nine days later. But if the bombing of Hiroshima represents one of the signal events of the twentieth century--indeed, in the history of mankind--at the time it was but another episode in an unprecedented drama whose final act had begun three weeks earlier, at the secret laboratory in Los Alamos. This book is the story of those three weeks, as seen through the eyes of the pilots, victims, scientists, and world leaders at the center of the drama. Interviews with American and Japanese witnesses tell the story of the bombing of Hiroshima--including the copilot, who writes a minute-by-minute diary on board the Enola Gay; the atomic scientist who arms the bomb in midair with a screwdriver; and the Japanese student desperately searching for his lover in the ruins of the city.--From publisher description

Young @ heart: The Young@Heart Chorus is a vocal group from Northampton, MA, who have earned an international reputation for their unique interpretations of songs by Sonic Youth, the Ramones, and the Clash. However, this isn't a teenage garage band attacking the classic punk rock songbook the Young@Heart Chorus is comprised of 22 senior citizens whose average age is 80, and under director Bob Cilman they've gained a degree of fame for their enthusiastic a cappella renditions of well-known rock & roll tunes. Filmmaker Stephen Walker spent several weeks with the members of the Young@Heart Chorus as they rehearsed for their annual concert in Northampton, and Young@Heart is a documentary which offers a look at their rigorous rehearsal process, the background of several members, and their efforts to stay active and think positive, even as their friends succumb to old age. Produced for British television, Young@Heart was screened in competition at the 2007 Los Angeles Film Festival

A ... minute-by-minute account of the momentous event that changed our world forever. On a quiet Monday morning in August 1945, a five-ton bomb-dubbed Little Boy by its creators-was dropped from an American plane onto the Japanese city of Hiroshima. On that day, a firestorm of previously unimagined power was unleashed on a vibrant metropolis of 300,000 people, leaving one third of its population dead, its buildings and landmarks incinerated. It was the terrifying dawn of the Atomic Age, spawning decades of paranoia, mistrust, and a widespread and very real fear of the potential annihilation of the human race. [The author] re-creates the three terrible weeks leading up to the wartime detonation of the atomic bomb-from the first successful test in the New Mexico desert to the cataclysm and its aftermath-presenting the story through the eyes of pilots, scientists, civilian victims, and world leaders who stood at the center of earth-shattering drama. -Back cover
