Log (48 p.) of the schooner Selim, detailing trips between New Orleans, Vera Cruz, and Frontera, Mexico from March 1847 through August 1848. The log records the names of ships encountered (including one that collided with them), daily activity on board ship, and a description of Commodore Perry's checkpoint in the Vera Cruz harbor in April 1847. There are two one-month gaps in the log while the ship was docked in New Orleans, and another from August 20, 1847 to March 18, 1848. Accompanied by three documents relating to the Selim's pilot boat work in Vera Cruz, two receipts, one of them signed in Frontera, and one watercolor portrait of Captain Batson.
