Geometric aspects of functional analysis : Israel seminar (GAFA) 1989-90 by Vitali D Milman( file )
5 editions published between 1988 and 2004 in English and held by 0 libraries worldwide
As in the previous Seminar Notes, the current volume reflects general trends in the study of Geometric Aspects of Functional Analysis. Most of the papers deal with different aspects of Asymptotic Geometric Analysis, understood in a broad sense; many continue the study of geometric and volumetric properties of convex bodies and log-concave measures in high-dimensions and in particular the mean-norm, mean-width, metric entropy, spectral-gap, thin-shell and slicing parameters, with applications to Dvoretzky and Central-Limit-type results. The study of spectral properties of various systems, matrices, operators and potentials is another central theme in this volume. As expected, probabilistic tools play a significant role and probabilistic questions regarding Gaussian noise stability, the Gaussian Free Field and First Passage Percolation are also addressed. The historical connection to the field of Classical Convexity is also well represented with new properties and applications of mixed-volumes. The interplay between the real convex and complex pluri-subharmonic settings continues to manifest itself in several additional articles. All contributions are original research papers and were subject to the usual refereeing standards
Realizations of polylogarithms by Jörg Wildeshaus( file )
1 edition published in 1997 in English and held by 0 libraries worldwide
Classically, higher logarithms appear as multivalued functions on the projective line. Today they can be interpreted as entries of the period matrix of a certain variation of Hodge structure, itself called the "polylogarithm". The aim of the book is to document the sheaf-theoretical foundations of the field of polylogarithms. Earlier, partly unpublished results and constructions of Beilinson, Deligne, and Levin on the classical and elliptic polylog are generalized to the context of Shimura varieties. The reader is expected to have a sound background in algebraic geometry. Large parts of the book are expository, and intended as a reference for the working mathematician. Where a self-contained exposition was not possible, the author gives references in order to make the material accessible for advanced graduate students
Categorical topology : proceedings of the international conference, Berlin, August 27th to September 2nd, 1978 by Horst Herrlich( file )
1 edition published in 1979 in English and held by 0 libraries worldwide
Symplectic manifolds with no Kähler structure by Aleksy Tralle( file )
1 edition published in 1997 in English and held by 0 libraries worldwide
Publisher Description (unedited publisher data) This is a research monograph covering the majority of known results on the problem of constructing compact symplectic manifolds with no Kaehler structure with an emphasis on the use of rational homotopy theory. In recent years, some new and stimulating conjectures and problems have been formulated due to an influx of homotopical ideas. Examples include the Lupton-Oprea conjecture, the Benson-Gordon conjecture, both of which are in the spirit of some older and still unsolved problems (e.g. Thurston's conjecture and Sullivan's problem). Our explicit aim is to clarify the interrelations between certain aspects of symplectic geometry and homotopy theory in the framework of the problems mentioned above. We expect that the reader is aware of the basics of differential geometry and algebraic topology at graduate level
Orthogonal polynomials and special functions : Leuven 2002 by Erik Koelink( file )
1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 0 libraries worldwide
The set of lectures from the Summer School held in Leuven in 2002 provide an up-to-date account of recent developments in orthogonal polynomials and special functions, in particular for algorithms for computer algebra packages, 3nj-symbols in representation theory of Lie groups, enumeration, multivariable special functions and Dunkl operators, asymptotics via the Riemann-Hilbert method, exponential asymptotics and the Stokes phenomenon. The volume aims at graduate students and post-docs working in the field of orthogonal polynomials and special functions, and in related fields interacting with orthogonal polynomials, such as combinatorics, computer algebra, asymptotics, representation theory, harmonic analysis, differential equations, physics. The lectures are self-contained requiring only a basic knowledge of analysis and algebra, and each includes many exercises
Algebraic topology : proceedings of an international conference held in Arcata, California, July 27-August 2, 1986 by G Carlsson( file )
1 edition published in 1989 in English and held by 0 libraries worldwide
These are proceedings of an International Conference on Algebraic Topology, held 28 July through 1 August, 1986, at Arcata, California. The conference served in part to mark the 25th anniversary of the journal Topology and 60th birthday of Edgar H. Brown. It preceded ICM 86 in Berkeley, and was conceived as a successor to the Aarhus conferences of 1978 and 1982. Some thirty papers are included in this volume, mostly at a research level. Subjects include cyclic homology, H-spaces, transformation groups, real and rational homotopy theory, acyclic manifolds, the homotopy theory of classifying spaces, instantons and loop spaces, and complex bordism
