The school project allows both the perception of the meaning of the actor's own words and the confrontation between what they say and what they do. Its relation to puipil's attainments is less effective than in the case of a technical devic allow the objectivation of the social reality of school failure. The project is a witness of differences, in the sense t educational logics have also an effect. the analysis of the social discourse is an effective starting point to the obser the democratisation process : the elitist secondary schools (or junior high-schools) are the best ones. The school project may be distinguished by the choice they made between reinforcing technological education, detecting educational diffcult modernisation or optional forms leading to a streaming process. The values which inform these projects can be organised in significant networks of different types : industrial, compensatory, modernising, elitist or conservatist ones. the study school balance according to the type of the project highilights the fact that pupil's achievements are greater, and they less, within the group of projects which reveals lesser implication with the reform objectives, than in the group of pro with a heightened implication level. working class children succeed better within schools having an elitist orientation in schools having an industrial or a modernising one. orientation towards a technological third form are more frequent i modernising or compensatory schools. No type of secondary school succeds in reducing the social gap between attainment levels : the conservatist and the industrial ones multiply it by four, the elistist ones seeming to be less unjust, as it double it. No project of any type will optimise pupil's aspirations level : it's inside industrial and compensatory scho that pupil's orientation project reveals a bigger discouragement in frequenting high school until the last year

OUR STUDY DEALS WITH THE ACQUISITION OF THE CONCEPTS OF RATIO AND PROPORTION WITH CHILDREN AGED FROM 11 TO 15. IT RESTS WITHIN A FRAMEWORK OF COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY STRESSING BOTH THE MATHEMATICAL ELEMENTS IMPLIED IN SEVERAL TASKS OF PROBLEM SOLVING AND THE DESCRIPTION OF THE SPECIFIC PROCESSES THEY ENTAIL. THE ACQUISITION OF THE CONCEPTS OF ENLARGEMENT AND SCALING DEFINES A FIELD ENABLING BOTH TO STUDY THE PROCESSES USED BY THE PUPILS TO SOLVE THESE VARIOUS PROBLEMS BUT ALSO TO ANALYZE THE CONCEPTUALIZATION OF THIS CONCEPT OF SCALING WITH REFERENCE TO AN ENLARGEMENT RATIO OF A 1 N TYPE IN WICH N IS LARGER. OUR STUDY IS A GENETIC ONE FROM THE CM2 TO THE END OF THE 3RD FORM. IT INTEGRATES TWO APPROACHES THAT SEEM TO US TO BE COMPLEMENTARY : 1- A QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS ISSUED FROM A QUESIONNAIRE RESTING ON A STATISTIC TREATMENT INTEGRATING BOTH FACTOR ANALYSIS OF THE CORRESPONDENCES AND A HIERARCHICAL UPWARD CLASSIFICATION. SUCH AN APPROACH ENABLES ONE TO DISTINGUISH FIVE GROUPS OF PUPILS CORRESPONDING TO SPECIFIC COGNITIVE PROFILES. 2- A CLINICAL STUDY ON THE CONTENT ANALYSIS OF 20 INTERVIEWS COMPLETED ONE YEAR AFTER THE QUESTIONNAIRE HAD BEEN TAKEN, THUS CONSTITUTING A SUB-SAMPLE OF THE LATTER. Dialogues Between experts in a domain are characterized by the elaboration and the use of restricted languages, which are the result of the adaptation of a universal tool of representation : natural language. In reference to the model proposed by ochanine, we call these languages'operative languages'to suggest that they are based on an operative knowledge in the domain. After a presentation of the general conceptual framework (schema theory), we review the litterature dealing with the lexical, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic characteristics of operative languages, and with the characteristics of operative understanding. This framework is illustrated by the study of a specific operative language, used by air traffic controllers in their communications with aircraft pilots. In a first part, the analysis focuses on the categorization of the messages emitted by the controllers and on the vocabulary used. The size of the (english and french) vocabularies is small ; the frequencies of use of the words and expressions vary widely. Using measures of frequency, occurence and commonness of the words, it is possible to define a method allowing to isolate a restricted lexicon, sufficient in ordre to recognize a large part of the emitted messages. In a second part, the study considers the understanding of this operative language, with the following hypotheses : understanding is based first on the categorization of the message, using schema-associated words, second on the instantiation of the evoked schema. A method for abstracting schemata from a corpus of pilots-controller communications is presented. The system which has been implemented on the basis of this model of understanding allows an evaluation of the validity of the proposed model. The performances and errors of the system are presented and discussed. The conclusion deals with an extension of our framework to the domain of expertinformation seeker dialogues

THIS RESEARCH LOOKS INTO HOW A COGNITIVE PROCESS (SELF-PROTOTYPE MATCHING) WORKS TH HELP EXPLAIN VOCATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL PREFERENCES. THE AUTHOR QUOTES TWO MODELMS: THE PREFERENCES SELECTION AND SERIATION MODEL (HUTEAU, 1982) AND THE SELF-PROTOTYPE MATCHING MODEL AS DERIVED FROM SELF-CONCEPT THEORIES (CANTOR AND AL,1985). THE CORE HYPOTHESIS LAYS ON THE IDEA THAT EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL REPRESENTATIONS MUST AGREE WITH HOW ONE THINKS ABOUT TYPICAL PERSONS (PROTOTYPES) WHO STUDY OR WORK IN SUCH FIELDS ONE IS INTERESTED IN. PREFERENCE WOULD THEN COME FROM A CORRECT CONGRUENCE BETWEEN SELF IMAGE AND PROTOTYPE. TWO EXPERIMENTS (BY MEANS OF INVENTORIES AND Q.SORT) WERE LED ON A 2500 SAMPLE OF FRENCH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, TO STUDY HOW SELF-PROTOTYPE MATCHING FUNCTIONS AND WHAT ROLE IT PLAYS IN THOSE STUDENT'S PREFERENCES SELECTION.GLOBALLY, THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE SELF-PROTOTYPE MATCHING PROCESS DOES INTERVENE IN THE SELECTION OF SUCH PREFERENCES, BUT, ALSO, SOME VARIABLES PUT LIMITS ON IT : THE DEGREE OF PRESTIGE AND SUITABILITY GIVEN TO THE SEX OF THE PROJECT AND THE SEX AND SCHOOL SITUATION OF THE STUDENTS

OUR RESEARCH AIMS AT DRAWING OUT VARIED PEDAGOGICAL ATTITUDES IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF THE PUPILS' KNOW LEDGE ASSESSMENT. SURVEYS BY QUESTIONNAIRES ON MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND TEACHERS AND SEMI-QUIDED INTERVIEWS ARE HERE THE METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS. THEY SHOW THAT THE KNOWLEDGE ASSESSED IS ESSENTIALLY CONCERNED WITH THE RULES OF CODIFIES SPORTS, THE DESCRIPTION OF THE UNFOLDING ACTION, OR THE ELICITATION OF THE WAY OF DOING IT. THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PHYSIOLOGICAL FUNCTIONING OF THE BODY IS DISCUSSED IN THIS FIELD. THREE PEDAGOGICAL TYPES ARE THEREFORE IDENTIFIABLE ACCORDING TO THE ASPECT CONSIDERED: THE "SCHOLARLY TYPE" (TEACHING WITH ASSESSMENT), "THE RELA TIONAL TYPE" (TEACHING WITHOUT ANY ASSESSMENT), AND THE "PRAGMATIC TYPE" (WHO SETS ASIDE THIS DOMAIN OF KNOWLEDGE). THE FACTORS WHICH GIVE BIRTH TO THIS PEDAGOGICAL TYPES ARE NOT TO BE FOUND IN THE TEA CHERS DIFFERENT UNIVERSITY LEVELS. IT IS MORE IN THE TEACHER'S PER SONAL DOMINANT CONCEPTION OF BODY EXERCISE AND IN HIS RELATIONSHIP TO KNOWLEDGE, THAT WE HAVE FOUND THEM.
