He gets his friends Mat the Rat and Sam the Lion to help try to catch it in his hat - but in the process Mit and Mat both fall into the water. Sam rescues them with a net and at the same time hauls in the fish. But the fish is unhappy out of water so Mit throws him back into the ocean

Ann the Giraffe struts through the forest in her new outfit, which includes a fancy hat with a long-stemmed flower on it. Eventually, she sits down under a tree and falls asleep. Mit the Chimp and Nan the Parrot meet in the same tree, see the flower, and discover the hat. They do not know that it belongs to the sleeping Ann. When the giraffe wakes up she is startled to see the parrot in her hat. Ann finally gets her hat back and all the animals nap under the tree

One by one the animals climb up to sit in their tree house - Mat the Rat (despite falling at his first attempt), Nan the Parrot, Mit the Chimp, and Sis the Snake. When Sid the Horse tries to join them, however, he is too heavy and the tree house falls with everyone in it. Sid is blamed for the resulting mess and so he undertakes to repair the tree house. All of the animals get back in the tree house with Sid solidly supporting them

Ann the Giraffe, Sis the Snake, Mit the Chimp, Sam the Lion, and Mat the Rat go for a boat ride together. After a while, each animal begins to lose interest in the ride and finds a better place to sit than in the boat. Only the furious Ann is left on the river. Finally, a lemonade-sipping alligator appears and makes the giraffe happy by inviting her to join him in the water

Mit the Chimp makes a paper-bag lion mask and puts it over his head. He pretends to be Sam the Lion and teases the other animals. Sis the Snake, Nan the Parrot and Baby Bear see through Mit's disguise and are angry at his tricks. Sam himself is the angriest of all when he discovers Mit's impersonation. Finally Mit drops his lion mask and admits to all the animals that Sam is the real lion

Ann the Giraffe, alone in a boat, is sad without her friend, Mat the Rat. She has no idea that he is hiding underwater in his fine new diving suit. When Ann lowers a fishing net into the water, Mat puts an octopus in it to tease her. Ann sadly throws the octopus back into the water. When she lowers the net again, Mat climbs into it, but though Ann pulls and pulls, he is too heavy for her. Ed the Dog and Mit the Chimp come running to help, and when the net is finally hauled out Ann is delighted to see Mat again
