Movement in verbal events by Apolonija Klančar Kobal( Article )
1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 3 libraries worldwide
This paper advances an evolving cognitive model for the understanding and production of the verbal word class. The model crucially depends on the concept of movement and tries to imitate the evolution of human verbal thought. As any model, it serves as a rather simplified picture of complex processes at work in our brain, a simplification arrived at through the most salient approximations. The model of movement ( ) in verbal events is definedby means of the following interactive and evolving parameters, presented as entities (a), (e), (x), and (y) standing for the following concepts: : movement in verbal event a: object of movement e: energy source of movement x: domain of movement y: co-domain of movement. These parameters can be understood as a reflection of man's belief that events talk about change which can be conceptualised by means of movement ( ). The conventional wisdom tells us that things (a) do not move ( ) or change without energy input(e) and that changes can be conceived of by means of changing location orstate from a starting point (x) to an end point (y). Through (verbal) history, not all the parameters have been individuated to the same extent (see2.) and not all of them can always be conceived of with equal clarity (see5.). The model is based on man's interaction with the world, in particularon his experience and observation of the movement of physical objects in space. It explores one way of processing the verbal word class cognitively
