Vietnam, February 1968. The war rages out of control. Maverick Colonel Wiggins (Carradine), defies his superiors and mounts an unauthorized operation in Cambodia to destroy a small railroad used to transport Viet Cong supplies. War-weary Captain Holland (Youngblood) and his platoon, frustrated with fighting the war halfway and determined to avenge their fallen comrades, take on the mission. With the help of a friendly Cambodian village, the platoon destroys the railroad and a Viet Cong supply depot, but they sustain heavy casualties. Meanwhile, back at the base, Wiggins has a problem with South Vietnamese Capt. Thuy who is threatening to make trouble over the death of another ARVN officer whom Wiggins right-hand man, Lt. Lazaro (Trevino), killed as a suspected traitor. Thuy also has a spy in Holland's platoon and plans to expose the operation in Cambodia. Wiggin's goes berserk, kills Thuy with a sword, and leads the rest of his men into Cambodia. He orders all the friendly villagers killed as collaborators. Horrified, Holland turns on Wiggins and kills him. Or so he thinks - after Holland's men withdraw, Wiggins rises again.

Opens with an attack by an American Special Forces team on a North Vietnamese camp in Laos in 1972. The attack is lead by Vincent Deacon (Young) who is pursuing an American deserter named Slater who is now fighting with the Vietnamese. The camp is taken but Slater escapes. The story resumes ten years later in Los Angeles with Deacon as the leader of a police SWAT team and Slater a member of a gang of criminals. The criminals massacre Deacon's family and he suffers a nervous breakdown and imagines himself back in Vietnam pursuing Slater. He is chased thru the wilds by Army and police. His old commander, Col. Cain (Ericson), talks him back to reality, but at the moment of surrender, an overeager sheriff shoots Cain and precipitates a final bloody shootout. A poor imitation of the Rambo genre.

Action/adventure/revenge melodrama set in the Philippines and Los Angeles in the early 1970s. A trio of American NCOs - Morelli (Argenziano), McGee (Isaac), and Doug Russel (Inglehart) - smuggle a load of heroin from Vietnam to the Philippines in one casket among a load of bodies they are escorting home. They rendezvous with Philippine gangsters at sea and sell their cargo. On the boat trip back, Morelli and McGee turn on Russel (because he does not want to participate in their long term criminal plans), stabbing him and throwing him overboard. Russel washes ashore, barely alive, on an island inhabited by a pair of Japanese soldiers who believe they are still fighting World War II. The Japanese mend his wounds and teach him martial arts and sword fighting. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Morelli and McGee are conducting an aggressive and successful campaign to take over the local rackets. McGee also puts a move on Russel's wife (Kennedy). Russel is eventually found by the Philippine military and returns to Los Angeles. There he learns what his ex-partners have been up to and begins a campaign of revenge, slicing up various gangsters with his samurai sword. When his wife and son are kidnapped by the gangsters, Russel comes to their rescue in a final showdown with his erstwhile betrayers.
