MapFAST : a FAST geographic authorities mashup with Google Maps by Rick Bennet( file )
1 edition published in 2011 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
When looking for information about a particular place, it is often useful to check surrounding locations as well. FAST geographic subjects provide clean access points to this material, and a Google Maps mashup allows users to see surrounding locations that are also FAST subjects. Moreover, the Web Service to the underlying data is also open and available for use. The map interface allows for simple selection of a location, with links to enter it directly as a search into either or Google Books
Understanding the collective collection : towards a system-wide perspective on library print collections by Lorcan Dempsey( Book )
1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
A compilation of previously-published articles and reports authored by OCLC Research staff and collaborators and published between 2006 and 2013. This collection focuses on the changes in focus, boundaries and value of library collections as the shift from primarily hardcopy (e.g., print) collections to digital resources and networks occurs in libraries
It's cloudy in research, but with little chance of rain by Diane Vizine-Goetz( file )
1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
The Web-based tool, Tag Cloud, provides a quick and easy method for building clouds from a collection of terms. With the Tag Cloud tool, almost any text can be used to create a cloud -- books, papers, presentations, Web pages, blogs, social tags, search terms -- as long as the text can be typed or pasted into an input box or harvested from a public URL
Print management at "Mega-scale" : a regional perspective on print book collections in North America by Brian F Lavoie( Book )
2 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
Using a mega-regions ("geographical regions defined on the basis of economic integration and other forms of interdependence") framework to model regional consolidation of shared print book library collections, this report explores a counterfactual scenario where local US and Canadian print book library collections are consolidated into regional shared collections. The analysis in this paper builds upon findings from the OCLC Research report, Cloud-sourcing Research Collections: Managing Print in the Mass-digitized Library Environment (2011), and draws upon bibliographic and library holdings data from the WorldCat database
