M.V. Arctic--propulsive performance interim report ( Book )
6 editions published between 1983 and 1984 in English and held by 7 libraries worldwide
This study is one of a series of 5 complementary studies to improve the knowledge concerning the performance of an icebreaking bulk carrier operating in the Arctic. The study determined the effect of ice ingestion on the performance and strength of the main machinery, gear train, shafting and propeller by the analysis of data recorded from 1979 to 1981 by a data acquisition system fitted to the ship. The M.V. Arctic is a 28,000 DWT bulk carrier built to comply with the Canadian Arctic Shipping Pollution Prevention Regulations (CASPPR) for Class 2 vessels. The data bank from which the analysis was carried out was recorded during commercial voyages to and from the Canadian Arctic and during dedicated trials of the vessel in the Arctic, Lake Melville in Labrador, and the Saguenay River in Quebec

Toward a Methodology for Man-Machine Function Allocation in the Automation of Surveillance Systems. Volume I. Summary ( Book )
1 edition published in 1975 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
A study was conducted to determine some of the performance implications of various degrees of automation in surveillance systems. The objective was to aid system designers of future surveillance systems in making trade-off decisions. A general functional taxonomy of surveillance systems was developed and each function was considered in terms of the necessity of operator involvement versus the likely success of full automation. A model of human information processing in surveillance systems was developed and various strengths and weaknesses of surveillance system operators were discussed in relation to the elements of the model
