Modification and testing of a segmented model of an icebreaker to evaluate ice resistance mathematical models by I Glen( Book )
5 editions published in 1989 in English and held by 9 libraries worldwide
The third phase of an experimental program designed to investigate the components of ice resistance on the hull of a vessel using a physically segmented model has been completed. The objective of the project was to compare the loads measured on portions of the hull of an icebreaker with those predicted by mathematical prediction models, with a view to obtaining a greater understanding of the ship/ice interaction process
The testing of the 1:8 scale model of the R-class in level ice by D Howard( Book )
5 editions published in 1987 in English and held by 8 libraries worldwide
A comprehensive series of level ice resistance tests was performed on a 1:8 scale model of the R-Class icebreaker. Ice tests with 3 velocities, 3 ice thickness and 2 ice strengths were performed. Additional ice tests were performed wth the ice sheet pre-sawn to the approximate size of broken floes. These results were compared with both full scale data and 1:20 model scale data to examine the the influence of scale in model ice testing
Model experiments of ice forces associated with ridge building by R Abdelnour( Book )
5 editions published in 1982 in English and held by 6 libraries worldwide

Model experiments to examine the behaviour of an ice field impinging on a man-made island by R Abdelnour( Book )
3 editions published in 1976 in English and held by 5 libraries worldwide
"This report describes the results of experimental investigations performed at Arctec Canada Limited's laboratory, to observe the behaviour of an ice floe of essentially infinite kinetic energy as it collides with a model of the artificial island, Netserk North. The experiments were conducted at scale ratios of 1/40 and 1/20 using model ice to simulate the ice floes. Twenty tests were conducted during which simulated ice fields impinged on the small scale artificial islands. Predictor equations were extracted from the data obtained ... which may be used to predict the required length of sloping beach required to prevent ridge up ... and to predict the forces exerted by an ice cover on the pile up to unconsolidated ice fragments which will form around an artificial island if conditions required to cause pile up are met"--ASTIS [online] database

Field temperature measurement in Thunder Bay Harbour (winter 1983) by R Abdelnour( Book )
3 editions published in 1983 in English and held by 4 libraries worldwide
Numerical models for the evaluation of ramming performance through first year ridges by Canada( Book )
2 editions published in 1993 in English and held by 3 libraries worldwide
This report describes the development of numerical models to assess the ability of icebreaking vessels to transit large ice features such as pressure ridges, which can be represented as a combination of level unbroken ice and ice rubble. This third phase of the program developed a numerical model for multiple-pass ramming of first-year ice ridges called RIDGERAM . This involved simulation of the entire ramming cycle, including penetration and backing and modelling of the ship motions induced by the ice. In a follow-on stage, the capability of analyzing the stability of the vessel in the ramming condition was developed in a program called RAMSTAB. This involved the addition of a hydrostatics analysis capability to the program
