Dr. Howard Latimer, an eminent Harley Street specialist, finds himself involved in a murder mystery. Latimer receives a telephone call which professes to come from Kaufmann, a film magnate whom he has known for many years. His friend asks him to do a good turn by meeting a film star, Freida Veldon, who is arriving at London Airport. This Latimer does, and having delivered Freida to her hotel, he thinks little more about her. He goes on to keep an appointment with his fiancée, Laura, and his best friend Ken Palmer. Several days later, however, Latimer returns to his flat and finds the film star's dead body there. The police are called in and during his attempts to prove his own innocence, Latimer discovers that Kaufmann's phone call was hoax. Deciding to play the detective himself, Latimer becomes involved in a series of sinister incidents, which only add to the mystery. Finally, however, Scotland Yard uncover the gang of criminals who have been responsible for framing Latimer, and he is persuaded to help them to expose the leader. In the exciting climax, it is revealed that Latimer's best friend, Palmer, is the chief criminal, and while the police prepare to arrest him, the doctor, cleared of all guilt, makes arrangements to marry his fiancée
