When is ambiguity-attitude constant? by Jürgen Eichberger( Book )
2 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 6 libraries worldwide
This paper studies how updating affects ambiguity-attitude. In particular we focus on the generalized Bayesian update of the Jaffray-Phillipe sub-class of Choquet Expected Utility preferences. We find conditions for ambiguity-attitude to be the same before and after updating. A necessary and sufficient condition for ambiguity-attitude to be unchanged when updated on an arbitrary event is for the capacity to be neo-additive. We find a condition for updating on a given partition to preserve ambiguity-attitude. We relate this to necessary and sufficient conditions for dynamic consistency. Finally we study whether ambiguity increases or decreases after updating

Accidents of birth, life chances and the impartial observer ( Computer File )
1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
We confront two common objections to Harsanyi's impartial observer theorem; one to do with 'fairness', and the other to do with different individuals' having different attitudes toward risk. Both these objections can be accommodated if we drop the reduction axiom; in particular, if we distinguish beween 'accidents of birth' and real-world 'life chances'. We do not drop the independence axiom that has often been seen as the source of these problems. Just as Harsanyi's theorem yields a utilitarian form of social welfare function, so our approach axiomatizes a generalized utilitarian form. If in addition, welfare is cardinally measurable, then we can interpret the shape of our generalized utilitarian functional form in terms of attitudes toward risk and toward interim inequality. -- impartial observer ; generalized utilitarian social welfare functions ; reduction axiom ; inequality of what?

The [alpha]-MEU model : a comment ( Computer File )
1 edition published in 2009 in English and held by 1 library worldwide
In [7] Ghirardato, Macheroni and Marinacci (GMM) propose a method for distinguishing between perceived ambiguity and the decision-maker's reaction to it. They study a general class of preferences which they refer to as invariant biseparable. This class includes CEU and MEU. They axiomatize a subclass of a-MEU preferences. If attention is restricted to finite state spaces, we show that any a-MEU preference relation, satisfies GMM's axioms if and only if a = D 0 or 1, that is, the preferences must be either maxmin or maxmax. We show by example that these axioms may be satisfied when the state space is [0,1]
