Geochemistry of manganese oxides: a guide to sulfide ore deposits by James Arthur Anderson( Book )
1 edition published in 1964 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
Geologic and geochemical studies have been made on manganese deposits of known origin in the Tintic mining district, Utah. Chemical and mineralogic characteristics of the supergene manganese oxides can be used to distinguish their source material and therefore their association with sulfide ore deposits. Manganese oxides formed by oxidation of ferroan rhodochrosite halos to massive lead-zinc-silver replacement ore are distinguished by anomalously high amounts of zinc, lead, silver, cadmium, and arsenic. Diagnostic manganese oxide minerals include chalcophanite [(Mc, Zn) Mn₂O₅·2H₂O], hetaerolite (ZnMn₂O₄), coronadite (PbR₈O₁₆, R=Mn²Mn⁴), and todorokite [(Mn, Ca)Mn₅O₁₂·3H₂O]. Crednerite (CuMn₂O₄) accompanies these minerals in copper-lead-zinc ore bodies. Manganese oxides formed by oxidation of manganocalcite along conduits remote from sulfide ore are distinguished by a lack of diagnostic minerals and minor element impurities, as well as a deficiency of minor elements and minerals that characterize other deposits. Transported manganese oxides formed by supergene solutions produced by weathering of altered volcanics, or by oxidation of pyritic fissures, are distinguished by anomalously high amounts of sodium, cobalt, nickel, titanium, vanadium, phosphorus, and potassium. They contain one or more of the diagnostic minerals including rancieite [(Ca, Mn)Mn₄O₉·3H₂O], woodruffite [(Zn,Mn)Mn₅O₁₂·3H₂O], and lithiophorite (Li₂Mn₂Al₈Mn₁₀O₃₅·14H₂O. Chemical analyses for zinc, lead, silver, and copper have proven to be a reliable, rapid, and inexpensive field exploration technique for distinguishing manganese oxides associated with sulfide ore in the Tintic mining district. Mineralogic and leach-test confirmations are desirable on samples showing positive results. A review of the literature suggests that similar techniques may be used to distinguish manganese oxides associated with sulfide ore in other mining districts
Monastery : a novel of horror / those who favor fire and other horror stories by James Arthur Anderson( Book )
1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
Media research methods : understanding metric and interpretive approaches by James Arthur Anderson( Book )
1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 2 libraries worldwide
More than a 'how-to' book, this textbook explains the reasons behind the methods and makes the connections to theory and knowledge production. Written in a conversational style, it takes the reader through each step of the research process, outlining the procedures, differences, strengths and limitations of metric, interpretive and the newer hybrid approaches. It lays down a strong foundation in empirical research and problem solving, addressing metric topics of hypotheses, sampling, statistics, and survey and experimental protocols and interpretive topics of textual analysis, coding, critical engagement and ethnography. It ends with a special chapter for those aiming at a career in research and analysis. Key Features: * provides students with an extensive overview of research practices while supplying real, practical advice on how to conduct research * consistent critical perspective throughout gives students an understanding of both the accomplishments and difficulties of research * addresses the practices of metric and interpretive research through Monte Carlo demonstrations that show the inner workings of statistical analysis and interpretive decision making
