OCLC Number: 3153418
Notes: "This rare work, basically the mollusk plates of Guérin-Méneville's Iconographie, does not identify the author(s) on the title page or elsewhere. J.C. Smith (in Georges Cuvier, an annotated bibliography of his published works. Washington, D.C., Smithsonian Institution, 1993, item 803) listed the author as Guérin-Méneville, with his name in brackets, and in a footnote referenced the Bibliothèque nationale catalogue notation "Refonte partielle de l'Iconographie." Cuvier certainly did not write the annotated plate explanations, the only text involved. We consider that authorship of the entire work should be attributed to Guérin-Méneville and Deshayes and that the text should be attributed to Deshayes. The fact that Guérin-Méneville and Deshayes drew the figures for one of the new plates in this work shows that both contributed to its production"-- R.E. Petit and E.V. Coan, The molluscan taxa made available In the Griffith & Pidgeon (1833-1834) edition of Cuvier (article published in Malacologia, 50(1):219-264 (2008) [doi: 10.4002/0076-2997-50.1.219]
Description: 74 p., 36 leaves of plates : chiefly ill. (some col.) ; 23 cm.
Responsibility: [par G.P. Deshayes].
