"This comprehensive and up-to-date synthesis is of particular interest to practicing professionals, university professors, researchers, university and government libraries, as well as to government regulators, provincial, and federal natural resource programs."--BOOK JACKET
Glacial balance( Visual )

5 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in English and held by 213 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A journey along the spine of the Andes mountain range, from Colombia to Argentina, getting to know the individuals and lives of those who are first affected by the dwindling tropical glacier reserve, the canaries in the mine. Along the way, scientists give us a perspective on what is happening in the natural world and what we can expect

The Himalayan cryosphere : past and present( Book )

3 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 34 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Himalaya Mountains contain not only one of the largest concentrations of ice outside the polar regions, but contribute to the hydrological requirements of large populations spread over seven nations. The exceptionally high elevations of this low-latitude cryosphere presents a natural laboratory and archives to study climate-tectonics interactions as well as regional v. global climate influences. The existing base-level data on the Himalayan cryosphere are highly variable. Several climate fluctuations occurred during the late Quaternary (MIS1-MIS5, especially the last c. 100 ka), which led to the evolution of the Himalayan landscape. Detailed studies of these archives, along with those of the present cryosphere and related hydrosphere, are essential for understanding the controls on present and future hydrology of the glacial-fed mountain rivers. This volume, a follow-up of the XII International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Science, Goa (A SCAR symposium), provides new data from locales spread over the entire Himalaya region and from Tibet. It provides a glimpse of the late Quaternary cryosphere, as well as a discussion in the last section on sustainability in the context of geohazard mitigations as well as the hydrological budget

Earth's changing climate by Richard Wolfson( Visual )

1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Earth's climate is a sensitive system that is subject to dramatic shifts over varying time scales. Today human activities are altering the climate system by increasing concentrations of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which raises global temperatures. In this unit, examine the science behind global climate change and explore its potential impacts on natural ecosystems and human societies."--Annenberg website
ENSO and PDO variability during the past 100 years by David Urmann( )

2 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The primary goal of this study is to reconstruct ENSO (El Nino Southern Oscillation) variability over the past 100-years from ice core and lake level records. Records of accumulation, deuterium excess, and dO18 from the ice core records obtained from Quelccaya (Peru) and Bona-Churchill (Alaska), along with lake elevation data from Crater Lake (Oregon) and Lake Titicaca (Peru) are examined. This work relies on the use of several ENSO proxies from different regions to reconstruct ENSO variability over the past 100 years. Utilizing data from multiple regions is critical as past studies attempting to reconstruct a record of El Nino events from proxy records have encountered two main problems, both resulting from relying on data collected only from one specific region. The first problem is that many climate patterns within a region not associated with ENSO can produce El Niño type effects in the record. The second problem is that regional data records local climate patterns, which reflect only the strength of the ENSO teleconnection through time. The records from Quelccaya and Lake Titicaca are shown to be strongly impacted by ENSO events. The records from Bona-Churchill and Crater Lake are shown to be strongly related to Aleutian Low variability. Variations in the strength of the Aleutian Low represent the primary North American ENSO teleconnection and are also related to the mode of the PDO (Pacific Decadal Oscillation). Correlations analysis shows the primary relationship between records from Peru and North American is their response to ENSO
