Hilma af Klint : a pioneer of abstraction by Hilma af Klint( Book )

6 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 253 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Hilma af Klint (1862-1944), an artist whose work is still unknown to a wider public, eschewed representational painting as early as 1906. Between 1906 and 1915 she produced nearly two hundred abstract paintings, some of which are in monumental formats. Like Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, and Kazimir Malevich, who have previously been regarded as the main protagonists of abstract art, Hilma af Klint was influenced by contemporary spiritual movements, such as spiritism, theosophy, and anthroposophy. Her multifaceted imagery strives to provide insight into the different dimensions of existence, where microcosm and macrocosm reflect one another. Hilma af Klint left more than one thousand paintings, watercolors, and sketches. This publication presents her most important abstract works as well as paintings and works on paper that have never before been seen in public, enhancing our understanding of her oeuvre."--The Publisher
Joaquín Torres-García : the Arcadian modern by Luis Pérez Oramas( Book )

3 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 224 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The work of Joaquín Torres-García opened up transformative possibilities for modernist art on both sides of the Atlantic. A Uruguyan who lived in South America, North America, and Europe, Torres-García anticipated the cultural breadth of today's art world not only in his life but in his equal concerns with the avant-garde and the primitive, the schematic and the utopian. Published alongside the first major American retrospective of Torres-García work since the 1970s, this book richly illustrates his paintings, drawings, sculptures, and manuscripts offering a full overview of his long and wide-ranging career
Louise Bourgeois : I have been to hell and back by Louise Bourgeois( Book )

7 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 195 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Dauntless, psychological, feminist -- the substantial oeuvre of Louise Bourgeois. Those who have stood under one of her Mamans, sculptures of spiders that symbolize maternal protection, understand the singularity of Louise Bourgeois's artistic approach. In terms of style, her pioneering body of work is complex, and she uses a wide variety of materials -- drawings, etchings, installations, works made of fabric, sculptures out of wood, marble, bronze, latex, plaster, hemp -- to deal with universal questions. The extensive monograph provides an overview of the overall artistic development of Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010) and presents a large number of works, including some that have never before been published. The volume is grouped into themes that characterize her oeuvre, including memory, trauma, relationships, sexuality, fear, as well as the difficulty involved with being an artist and mother at the same time. Personal photographs furthermore document the artist's childhood and family life; several letters and documents are being made accessible for the first time."--Publisher's website

Dennis Hopper : on the road by Dennis Hopper( Book )

4 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 106 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Director, actor, photographer, artist and art collector, Dennis Hopper was a man of diverse talents who intersected with countless key moments in American culture--particularly, and most famously, in the 1960s. Hopper's great gifts as a photographer are well established, with many of his images having entered public consciousness. This handsomely produced volume looks at Hopper's photography throughout its glory years, from 1961 to 1967. In these years, Hopper carried a camera everywhere, from bars to marches, art openings to freeways. Conceived as a kind of road trip across America, the book runs the gamut of 1960s counterculture and film culture, taking in Warhol's Factory (where Hopper spent much time), film shoots, street scenes, road trips and of course the classic portraits of movie stars, musicians, artists, bikers and activists, from Martin Luther King to Allen Ginsberg and James Brown. The result of exhaustive research into the artist's archives at the Dennis Hopper Art Trust, and with a wealth of previously unpublished images, Dennis Hopper: On the Road offers a first-hand, collective portrait of an era. Dennis Hopper (1936-2010) was an American actor, filmmaker and artist. An exceptional creative talent, his work in film, photography, painting and sculpture gained him both critical acclaim and a high public profile. He won an award at the Cannes Film Festival for 1969's Easy Rider. His photographic work continues to be featured in high-profile international exhibitions."
Prince, Picasso by Richard Prince( Book )

9 editions published in 2012 in English and Spanish and held by 105 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Tiré du site Internet de Artbook: "Over the past two years, Richard Prince (born 1949) has been working on an intensive assimilation of Picasso, producing a succession of collages and canvases that directly dialogue with the modernist master's oeuvre. For picasso, as for Prince, the theme of the female nude is an abiding motif--"he never lets go of the body","as Prince observes--and Prince's latest nudes are a typically energetic mixture of appropriation and wonderfully crude, irreverent interjection in the fashion of Duchamp, deploying such materials as ink jet printing, oil crayon, pastel, acrylic, graphite and charcoal. The black-and-white photographs of female nudes are derived from recently published anatomy how-to books, and endow Prince's homages with a graceful, rhythmic plasticity. This elegantly produced, linen-bound volume (with a bellyband that doubles as a folded poster), published for a 2012 exhibition at the Museo Picasso in Málaga, presents these works for the first time. It includes a brief interview with Prince and critical commentary by José Lebrero Stals."

Pablo Picasso, family album( Book )

4 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 74 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Throughout Pablo Picasso's career, members of his immediate family were portrayed in a variety of works and media, becoming recurrent motifs. This publication compiles a significant group of portraits from various museums and private collections. Produced between 1906 and 1971, many of the works reproduced here were inspired by the female companions with whom Picasso shared his life, such as Fernande Olivier, Olga Khokhlova, Marie-Thérèse Walter, Dora Maar, Franc̦oise Gilot and Jacqueline Rogne, as well as by his children, Paloma, Claude and Paul. The artworks in Pablo Picasso: Family Album, which range from oil paintings and drawings to sculptures, linocuts and engravings, suggest a special harmony in Picasso's life between familial and artistic realms."
