"Au mois de juin 2014, au Centre scientifique de l'Académie Polonaise des sciences à Paris, dix médiévistes polonais et français se sont réunis deux jours durant pour échanger autour de l'oeuvre de Jacques Le Goff. Survenue quelques semaines plus tôt, la mort de l'historien qui, plus qu'aucun autre, avait entretenu, malgré tous les obstacles politiques, le dialogue entre la Pologne et la France a changé la rencontre en hommage. Le thème, dans la ligne de nombreux travaux de Jacques Le Goff, intéressait l'altérité, cet "autre" qui, à l'exemple du Moyen Âge lui-même, est tout à la fois familier et différent, nécessaire dans tous les cas. Sur la dizaine de contributions alors présentées, plus des deux tiers intègrent ce volume coordonné par Philippe Josserand et Jerzy Pysiak. Quatre autres études de médiévistes nantais, analysant eux aussi la dynamique des altérités, les ont rejointes. Ensemble, ces textes prétendent aider à mieux saisir la figure de l'"autre" à travers le Moyen Âge et, depuis l'Antiquité tardive jusqu'au début de l'époque moderne, ils s'attachent, en développant des perspectives temporelles, thématiques, géographiques et culturelles variées, à interroger ce qui distingue et ce qui unit, ce qui fait que le "nous", parfois, est un "autre" aujourd'hui comme hier et que l'"autre" résonne en "nous", participant de nos appartenances et servant de façon décisive à les forger."--Page 4 of cover
