This thesis describes the Valangi people, herdsmen and farmers living in the Kondoa region, in Tanzania. The study is divided into six parts : an introduction to the social and linguistic contexts in which the Valangi live ; a description of Langi phonology, consisting of 29 consonants and 10 vowels ; a presentation of the 18 noun classes and of the agreements between the independant nominal and dependant nominals ; a description of the verbal system ; a study of the syntactic level ; and annexed are three oral tradition texts, completely transcribed, translated, with an interlinear analysis, on paper and on CD-ROM, where it is equally possible to listen to be texts ; three lexicons : Langi-English-French ; French-Langi ; English-Langi and a list of Langi tree names with the corresponding terms in 42 other languages spoken in the Kondoa region
