Einstein's general theory of relativity : with modern applications in cosmology by
Øyvind Grøn(
)
25 editions published between 2007 and 2010 in English and Undetermined and held by 696 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Einstein's General Theory of Relativity: With Modern Applications in Cosmology by Oyvind Gron and Sigbjorn Hervik is about gravity and the concept of gravity as Albert Einstein saw it curved spaces, fourdimensional manifolds, and geodesics. The book starts with the first principles of relativity and an introduction to Einstein's field equations. Next up are the three classical tests of the theory of relativity and an introduction to black holes."Jacket

Einstein's theory : a rigorous introduction for the mathematically untrained by
Øyvind Grøn(
)
20 editions published between 2002 and 2014 in English and held by 520 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This book provides an introduction to the theory of relativity and the mathematics used in its processes. Three elements of the book make it stand apart from previously published books on the theory of relativity. First, the book starts at a lower mathematical level than standard books with tensor calculus of sufficient maturity to make it possible to give detailed calculations of relativistic predictions of practical experiments. Selfcontained introductions are given, for example vector calculus, differential calculus and integrations. Second, inbetween calculations have been included, making it possible for the nontechnical reader to follow stepbystep calculations. Thirdly, the conceptual development is gradual and rigorous in order to provide the inexperienced reader with a philosophically satisfying understanding of the theory. Einstein's Theory: A Rigorous Introduction for the Mathematically Untrained aims to provide the reader with a sound conceptual understanding of both the special and general theories of relativity, and gain an insight into how the mathematics of the theory can be utilized to calculate relativistic effects

Lecture notes on the general theory of relativity : from Newton's attractive gravity to the repulsive gravity of vacuum energy by
Øyvind Grøn(
)
17 editions published between 2008 and 2010 in English and held by 446 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This book has resulted from a course in the general theory of relativity at the University of Oslo where the author has lectured for more than twenty years. Although the text is designed for master students, it is rather selfcontained. Since mathematics courses on differential geometry and tensor calculus usually employ a rather abstract notation different from the component notation used in physical applications, the book introduces not only an introduction to the physical principles of the theory and physical applications of the theory, but also introduces the mathematics which is needed, in particular the calculus of differential forms. Detailed calculations are given of the bending of light, the perihelion precession of Mercury and the predictions for the HafeleKeating experiment. The TolmanOppenheimerVolkoff equation is deduced and solved for an incompressible fluid to give the internal Schwarzschild solution. Rotating black holes are discussed. The FriedmannRobertsonWalker universe models are deduced. Also the reader will become familiar with the Universe model which is now considered as the standard model of the universe; a flat model filled with vacuum energy and cold matter. The inflationary era at the first moment of the history of our universe is also discussed

Utsikt fra universets sentrum oppdagelsen av vår spesielle plass i kosmos by
J. R Primack(
Book
)
1 edition published in 2008 in Norwegian and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
